Ben, it has been (no pun intended) said before. You can not make it perfect in every aspect. The axle being back at full bump is not a big deal in my book.

If you are at full bump turning, you will be more concerned with cleaning your pants out.
 
It just kills me even with this bald tire it runs that much... what happens when I chuck a 35 up? as of Right now If I had the tire at full bump and turned the wheel it would smash into the lower fender.

I know cut the fenders but it still would hit the lower of the wheel wells.


I just want to move the axle a little more forward...
 
Then do it. Mine rub. I redesigned the fender wells then moved that reservoirs behind them so had to change that. $95 is what? 3 hours worth of work at the dealership?
 
I would do it Ben. You will end up in a better spot. And I doubt the 4link calculator stuff would change too drastically right?
 
I think the longer links would control the axle moving so far and it adjust the anti squat numbers?

What do they experts say on longer links and moving the frame brackets further back?
 
Question is how do I fit it in the back of a malibu...


Does the pan hard have to run in a symmetrical straight line or can I use the alignment spacers and have it off a few degrees? I would assume this is the reason ORD made the bracket extra wide to allow for this.
 
Just one thing to quickly mention, the longer links won't have the upper link hitting the frame during full compression will they? And the Panhard doesn't need to be parallel to the axle if that's what your asking. As long as it doesn't bind the heims with the forward/rearward travel of the axle as it moves up and down. Which I would imagine it wouldn't.
 
I did take that into consideration and I don't think they will hit under full compression.

I swapped it over to see how it would "look" my link need to be 7 and a half inches longer if I do this.

Never mind the mess it has to all go on one side of the garage when I leave. All the tools and parts get tossed in the bed or under the truck just to get dragged out.

Would the 7 inches or so make that much difference to make it worth the 95 dollars? Having a hard time justifying it if it isn't worth it.
 
At this point,you have to buy more material no matter what right? Cause at the very least, you need to move your axle forward an inch or so. So I don't see a way around it myself. It will make the axle move front to back less which would also help. I think just go ahead and do it unless or gives you a good reason not to.
 
If that is the exposed thread you need to get the axle even close, new links should be made. Way too far out. So go longer to get both issues better. It's only money and you can always make more of it.
 
That is where I' m at.

You can see in the picture how much it took to move the axle forward by turning the links, 10 threads counted if my memory is correct. I would much rather have the axle forward and off the fenders.

Did I tell you that quote? I say it all the time.. I think I had maybe 4 or 5 threads exposed when the axle was a inch back.

With longer links you have less movement on the joints correct? Also it wouldn't allow the axle to go back into the cab as far?

I spent some time trying to make the LED blinkers work on the front of the Jimmy Tuesday. Never thought to search here. Looked on the evilweb, too much info, gave up. Standing in Car quest to get parts for work, and this guy is picking up a powered flasher for LED conversion. Plug and play. But if I had not asked for help, I would still be scratching my head.

Step back, look and keep asking questions. You will beat Adams thread yet.

Before you spend more money on tubing, pvc links.

This is the first place I run to, no one of my friends here have any idea what I'm doing. I have to ask my internet friends. :thumb:

Yes but it would run into the arch of the frame and require some bracing I think. If I make the links longer it will make the axle move less at bump travel to the cab.
 
Ben, when you played with Legos as a kid, did you only build them using the instructions? Or did you problem solve in order to build whatever it was you were building? I know that I built my first Lego radius arm coil over setup when I was 10. I built cantilever 3 links with functioning steering out of Legos. My point is the same point I think Wade is making. To use your brain muscle and allow yourself to take the frustration as a sign of learning what didn't work so you can better understand what will work.
 
Yes I know what you are saying and trying to get across. I did build things out of lego's but my parts list wasn't much to get into this kind of level.

It doesn't help I'm absolutely horrible at math, I can't figure 95% of the measurements and stuff without a calculator. Sense the 4th grade I was put in special education math until the day I graduated. Do I use this as a excuse? No, I still try and completely a problem or a project using math. This might shed some light on why I can't figure out angles and what one thing will affect another. From the start of this 4 link project until now, my level of understanding has vastly improved and I know the characteristics.
