Well, if the cam works out and is good I'll send a used set down. I'm not comfortable with the term "baby it". You will have to back flush them. Its very easy to do. I bet they would work as is but they are out and better safe than sorry. You just need a larger 9v battery, some jumpers, correct size hose, cleaner and a little air pressure. Even NEW injectors, you would be amazed the crap that comes out of them.
 
I will know tomorrow if the cam is good andd we will talk more. Even if it isn't good, from the sounds of it injectors isn't a bad deal after all.
 
Was that 3 thou the result of the failure, or part of the cause?
 
I did see the bluing on that journal...just trying to figure out what came first. Probably fair to say the damage to the cam came after as it did run fine for quite a while...
 
Yes, they believe it spun the cam bearing first then lost oil psi lower and took out every bearing including the crank.

Kind of funny it still ran hahah
 
They are factory gm bearings, I have been finding out it's a common issue with them spinning in the lq4 and 9 platform.

This was a used "good" engine not a rebuilt.
 
you might have wiggled it when you put the new bump stick in.
 
If it is a known problem, did GM ever come up with a plan to fix it.
 
Not that I know of but you can get one piece aftermarket bearings. The factory have fingers that interlock.

I would think it would be hard to push a bearing out from just installing the camshaft. But I guess if you bump it hard enough anything is possible.

The factory bearing are a two piece design?
 
Yes the factory has a one piece but with the interlocking fingers to squeeze it and I'm guessing to not use a press to install?
 
Cheap way to do business and only costs the owner a pile of money to fix. They saved 30 cent and you paid $3500 to fix.
