I don't know if I'm doing this right but . . .

Tensile of a grade 8 bolt is at least 120,000 lbs/in squared.

X4 =480,000 lbs/in squared

Shear is 60% = 288,000 lbs/in squared

3/8 bolts = 108,000 lbs.

I still think you are good. But I've had a couple of Modelo's so . . .

Close. The area of a 3/8" diameter bolt is (3/16)^2 * PI = 0.110 in^2.

288,000 * 0.110 = 31,800 pounds of force required to shear all 4 bolts (8000 pounds apiece). If shearing the bolts is what he's worried about. :dunno:
 
I'm sure it's fine but another bolt for good measure won't hurt.

If it is simple fix I'll do it, if it requires more I'll probably put it off.
 
Weld it on where it sits.

One weld each side on the front and rear. Done
 
Plan is tomorrow to get the rear diff back together, Friday reseal the tcase and put it in. Saturday I have to work so I hope to put the new oil psi sender in and hopefully start on the front tow hooks.

Sunday is still up in the air. I might work on the boat all day or the truck depends on what my brother is doing.
 
I do have the factory hooks, but I have a winch plate that wraps around the frame.

Going to slide the tow hook mount through it, bolt it to the frame and weld it to the winch plate and have it sticking out through the bumper and have the shackle for easy access. If I can, a hidden receiver will go in between the tow hooks and eventually receive a winch.
 
I'm terrible at math so I won't get into that conversation.


Good thing I closed the garage and went inside. My back yard has a lake.
