So just so that I am not confused , are you are mounting the cooler with the ports pointed at the ground?
So you can run the lines under the radiator support , or how?
Correct the cooler is just way to big. I always hear buy the biggest cooler you can fit and it's so big it's hard to fit where I want it. I called and emailed derale they both said it might cause some air trapped in the trans but it should vent out through the vent line.

Does anyone know where the ecm picks up the temp fluid at?

Not sure about the ECM but it has to be from ports L and M on the trans connector, so if you trace them back you can find them. M supplies 5V to the temp sensor, and L is the sensor output back to the ECM.

I looked around and got mixed reviews. I'll probably have to follow a diagram like you are suggesting but it seems to be in the valve body.

On the 4L80E its part of the wiring harness floating in the trans pan, might be similar on the 60 since they share the same connector and general control scheme.

@Babaganoosh
I am not trying to get in any body's face but, from my personal experience with a 700R4 behind a big block for 43K miles , you don't have to be that afraid of trans temperature in normal conditions !
I have a temp gauge in my '70 due to the fact that it wasn't a preferred idea to put a 700 behind a big block.
The ONLY time that I have had high temperature in the trans was screwing around on Imogene pass, using 2nd gear/ 4 low (NP205) too much WITHOUT an auxiliary cooler . It got up to 200 before I quit and slowed down.
That was messing around with 10K to 14K in elevation in a short distance .
I have also had that truck on the drag strip and of course the burn-out contest , which is the picture in my avatar .

Hope so, going to pressure test it, run the lines to a brand new cooler and back. Also going to plug in the GM Tech 2 so I can see exactly what the ecm is commanding it to do before I even leave the garage.

I'm tired of this Chinese fire drill of transmissions I want to enjoy my truck dang it.

Before December 10th I would like to have my cb radio installed, rock lights, driving lights, trans installed, inner fender installed, bump stops and limiting straps installed.

Guess I better get cracking...
By December 10th I'm just hoping that I've made "some" progress! I have your list plus or minus a few things.

Most of it I have laying out ready to install or can be done in short time.

The longest project I don't have figured out yet is the bump stops and limiting straps. I have a general Idea how I want to do it but it will take some time.
