Por15 is a bandaid? I know the only true answer is cutting it out and welding in new but do I really need to?
You could have it blasted out! Don't worry, that won't be tedious to mask up or clean up afterwards...

:haha:

I like what was suggested by @Smokinthehippies . That should last a long time in AZ.

I bought a jb custom fab cable shifter that will go into a spaceship console between the seats.
Ahh, well then weld that hole shut before you start spraying any rust converter or anything else. The cable doesn't need that big of a hole.
:D

Still have the piece I cut out before bb17 that I tried to get a factory shifter to work.

Gun rack back in, it's the little things I keep around that my dad installed back in the day. I probably won't use it for what it's intended for but hey it reminds me of Dad. 3 of the 4 screws are the ones he used to put it in.

Curious if @ryoken could put his two cents in on the rust.
I can tell you if you don't see a lot of pitting and the surface is pretty straight once rust is removed which can be done in so many ways, then just convert the rest of rust and paint. If you have pitting or holes or it's too thin from the rust then you'll need patches.
I want to say from the pictures you don't need patches
