That's nothing. Wire brush, rust converter, primer/ paint/ Bedliner / seam sealer/ sound deadener and carpet.
Pick your passion on what products you want to use.
Probably stab around with a screwdriver to see if you need any patches. But Arizona truck shouldn't need any.

as with everything, it all depends on what you want/need/expect.... lifer rig? stop it in it's tracks.. I'd be finding the thin spots with a screwdriver, square off all patch areas back to decent steel, BLAST it, patch as needed... epoxy.... seamseal... everything other than that is a compromise..... next up would be a nasty wirewheel followed up by a converter....

i'll leave the snake oil out of this...

i am seeing a few holes here and there correct? that lower kick panel joint looks pretty swollen...

My 'Arizona' Jimmy had rust w/ holes through the floor boards. So it can happen.
Yeah, but I'm trying to tell myself it doesn't have any. I'll try and take a look at it today, need to move it from the front to the side yard behind the gate.

If it was mine, I would work on part by the seat and trans tunnel area, on the passenger side more, and I would also pull the seam sealer out in just the affected area of the passenger side kick panel.

Yes I agree, need to keep going but wanted to show what it was looking like.

yeah, rust behind that seamsealer.... ideal is to media blast it... it would go soooper quick with everything well sanded/wirewheeled first.. just gotta try to keep it out of the dash...

if not, you could acid it to get more out of the pits, couple options that way, from nasty to mild....... OR you can go with a phosphoric acid, which is really converter.. clear, turns rust black, ospho, corroseal, being a couple...

I will have to look into those, and see what I can get.

My biggest question is how and why did this start?

Wet carpet. Last two blazer I had had rust, az trucks, both were results of chronic wet carpet

Rust was where carpet/padding was bunched up,

Leaky heater core. To many spilled sodas, wet boots and shoes front the lake, etc, etc. The list goes on. Don't worry about it. Fix it correctly and move on. It's an old truck. Shit happens.

As far as I'm aware the heater core is original? the wet boots and stuff explains a bit but I'm more just curious how this happens.
