The massive suspension, isn't only concerned with power plant weight, also has to take in gvwr, how much strain there will be stopping all that.
Most newer dually are good for 15k+ not counting tow weight

Curious how you plan to use the truck after the swap? I ask, because taking down a (very well) running and driving truck is no small thing.

What makes the juice worth the squeeze?

David
Same way I use it now, I just want boost and diesels have always intrigued me.

I’m really just trying to justify an insane swap, really no point in it. :haha:

Holy canoli, so you'll have a 6.0 LS in the tow vehicle and a DMax in the toy, seems kind of backwards?

I have a feeling the $900 engine is going to be the cheapest part of that swap.

If you want boost without extravagant cost you could always buy a used turbo or supercharger and boost the 6.0 on the cheap....

Either way, you do what Ben wants, that's the only thing that matters with a toy, do what you want.

There's no doubt turbo diesels make gobs of torque at low RPM, it's just what driving experience you prefer is all.

If I was going for an overland/go way out in the sticks truck I’d stick with an LS. I’d hate to have to try and change parts on a duramax anywhere but home. If it was a tow rig the d max makes sense. To me modern diesels don’t scream the reliability that they once did.

I’m getting kind of bored with the LS it needs about 3k to get what I want out of it. I have my ls, terminator and dash sold just need to come up with a price.

I want to take a look at the duramax, if it’s in good condition I’m going to run it.

The tow rig will be getting upgraded probably about the time this swap would be done.

The emissions junk is what causes a majority of the problems with new diesel engines, aside from the CP4 fuel pumps. Getting rid of the emissions and using a CP3 with external lift pump should be a very reliable package. Yes, the Duramax water pump is more of a job to swap vs Cummins or LS, and there a few other things that can happen, but I have seen quite a few put down a bunch of miles without issues.
Comparing to an old 6.2 on one end and a 12 valve P pump Cummins on the other, can give a wide range of durability reference, IMO. :D

Does this swap mean that a ton needs to change on this truck? In my opinion, yes, a whole lot needs to change.
However, as Heath said, do what you want to, Ben. Even if it isn't what others may do.

I’m going to do some research and thinking, if I don’t end up using it I can get my money back and probably some more.

Honestly if I could find a good deal on a supercharger I would just do that. A turbo sounds great but I want low end all the way up.

I would agree a supercharger would be the ticket. LSA, or do the M122 with adapters. Check out Richard Holdener's YouTube and look up his LS supercharger videos.

Ohhh I have looked just about every combination possible. I had cad files for putting a gt500 blower on one.

Don't second guess yourself. If you want to do it, do it. (I dream of it in my K5 lol) Good luck with whatever you decide!
