1985 Chevy M1009 (CK5 build thread part 2)

ORD Motor mounts and transfer case mounts installed today. I knew the OE mounts were bad, but I was surprised at the drivers side. It was basically collapsed and the bolt was broken and super short. The two half's were riding on each other, as proved by some shiny witness marks. I was getting a weird vibration on turns, and this was the reason.
Not good:

Well, here's the problem!! :haha:The rest of the drivers side bolt was long gone:

Something I haven't seen before was this notch on the passenger side engine bracket, to allow the bolt to be slid out without removing the starter.

The new motor mounts dropped right in place, but were a bit more difficult than the K10 due to the 6.2 exhaust manifolds.
Interesting fact is ORD included Grade 8 bolts that mate the two pieces together with the bushing, the set I got for the K10 had Grade 5. Probably not a big deal.

The OE transfer case mounts were wrecked, the years of oil leaks really took their toll.

Yea, its kinda grimy under there. I will get it all cleaned up eventually.
I was concerned about the all the new mounts creating extra vibration, but I can't really tell the difference. As mentioned above, they actually helped with the weird sounds I was hearing on turns.

My mounts on mine were bad enough that on one drop it actually cracked the fuel pump. I didn’t realize how low the engine sat until I did the diy4x mounts and then new transmission mount bushings. Amazing how much better everything aligned and fit and worked.

hmm, weird. The dampener still has clearance at the cross member ? I got the brace plates to work with DIY4x comp mounts on a sbc

Considering the old mount was metal on metal, poly mounts should be a slight improvement.

Quick update, over the weekend I serviced the differentials with some fresh Lucas 80w/90 and a set of LubeLockers. 3.08's were confirmed, as well as the ambiguous Gov-Lock. Everything looked good, but it was definitely due. I have decided to run these axles for a while, as I have a set of 3.73 10-bolts standing by.
I also serviced the NP208, and was worried that it may be over full due to sharing ATF with the TH400. But my concerns were quelled when the ATF level was below the fill plug by over an inch. So that's a win in my book. I filled it back up with some Lucas Synthetic ATF.
Sorry no pics of this work, but you know the deal.
I recently picked up a @Hogback Fabrication steering box brace, the design looks quite strong and I believe it will clear the tranny cooler lines.
IMG_20240722_184856972.jpgInstall will have to wait, as this weekend the wife, dog and me are finally gonna road trip the M1009 out to Ocean Shores and enjoy the beach for a few days. High temps will be around 63, which will be 15 degrees cooler than inland.

Yeah those 78° can be horrible to do truck work in, lol I know my pool is warmer than that . Have fun safe trip enjoy the ride :waytogo:

That steering brace looks nearly identical to the ORD brace with the extra X plate added. On my M1028, the transmission cooler lines rubbed on the brace slightly so I snapped a piece of 3/8" hose filleted open over the edge of the plate to prevent damage.

Transcooler lines on the driver side a 6.2 thing? Trying to understand with GM would have switched them to the far side? Is that the cool side of the radiator?

Yup they go to the drivers side of the radiator. Then the oil cooler lines start on the drivers side above the oil filter, go to the back of the drivers side of the radiator and cross over to the passenger side.
