1987 GMC V3500 Crew

Tow rig and daily driver
There were available tbi or with a carb.. Only ones that I have ever seen that were not tbi were very plain government owned though. Glove box tag says L19. Pretty sure that was the tbi 454.

This truck was originally a TBI 454. PO swapped in a carburetor with a 502 when he bought it, then pulled it and put this motor in before selling.

In Washington can you run a carburetor if it came with TBI? Legally that is

WA state eliminated all emission testing. Even when they had it, it was only active in regions around large cities and I lived outside of those areas.

CA is the only state I'm aware of with emission controls that rival nazi levels.

Out and about hunting down vacuum tubing for the other truck.

That’s a nice looking unit! Even the coast to coast running boards look good!
There is super nice one close to my place but it’s 2 Wheel.

I probably won’t see it again till spring, not many nice ones around anymore.

I drove this truck home after buying it. It ran well, but definitely has a list going that needs attention
  • Headlights need to be replaced, they suck
  • Heat/AC: Defrost does not work, big issue where I live. Probably the plastic lever broken and there is an aluminum replacement available.
  • Alignment: this thing needs an alignment very bad. I could not keep it straight on the road.
  • Brakes/hydroboost: brakes and steering quit when the engine drops to idle. Could be the pump or a valving issue. I need to figure this out as it is the worst time to loose power steering and power brakes is when you slow down to turn.
  • Passenger side mirror is a cheap aftermarket replacement and I need to track down an OEM mirror so I can see.
  • Driver side seat belt is stuck and needs to be cleaned and lubed
  • Temp guage pegs to hot when the engine is barely warm
  • Oil pressure guage pegs past max
  • Dash lights did not work on the drive home but are now working when I pulled it into the shop
  • Cracked passenger side headlight bezel
  • Tires, rear have a 2006 date code with lots of tread, fronts don't have a 4-digit date code and may be pre 2000
Tonight I pulled the power steering pump, and pulled the pulley off. I found it was missing a bolt and spacer for one side of the upper adjustment bracket. So I am on the hunt for that part (or dimensions to scrounge one up from my hardware collection). I really don't want to wait a week for a spacer to show up and not get anything done while I have the week off.
