1987 V20 Suburban 350TBI/SM465

drill the heads off, pull the sill plate. Lift carpet grab screws with vise grips and unscrew. If not enough to grab on top look under truck and try.

Use a drill bit the same size as a number 8 sheet metal screw shank
 
Alright I'll try the impact driver first and then go with the vise grips if that doesn't work.

Front door seal kits arrived this week. ORD order comes in today.

I was installing my front seatbelts this morning. First one went in fine...

EDIT: I hit it with penetrating oil first, let it sit, tried with my socket wrench and it wouldn't budge so I tried the impact. After 2-3 seconds, it started to turn and after about half a turn it snapped off. I'll have to go pick up an extractor. I'm concerned that because it was so stuck even with the impact, that I may not have much luck. We'll see I guess.

Go under and wire brush the threads. This might help with extraction. If worse case grind nut off weld new one on.

Are there supposed to be nuts under the truck on these? Cause there aren't on any of them. Or maybe I misunderstood what nut you're talking about
 
There are nuts welded under the floor on earlier models caged or welded on the later.
 
With the seatbelts on hold until I can get to the store for the extractor and UPS taking their sweet time with my ORD order, I started on the roof insulation. Its hot as hell so I'm taking a break until this evening. There is some surface rust underneath the roof ribs. I'm going to hit it with that rust converter before I cover it with the Kilmat.

On an unrelated note, this weekend I'm going to do some general maintenance and need some input. Other than the front axle still dripping a little out of the main shaft, I don't see any other leaks. The transmission is CAKED in dried oil/dirt though. Besides those things, I want to give the thing a once over and have a fresh start with good clean parts/fluid. Going to change the engine oil and trans fluid. Coolant is new, air filter is new, AC is all new and converted to a newer type. I don't see any damage to the belt. What else would y'all suggest? Fuel filter? Injector? Ignition system? Diff fluid? Any seals?
 
Well the front springs, shackles, and shocks are in. It was a real bitch. Couldn’t put the zero rates in because the longer center pin that came with them is too big for the hole in the springs. I’ll get back around to that another time. Got about 3/4” lift out of the whole thing.
 
I always use a die grinder, and open up the holes in the springs.

Yeah I didn’t have one of those or anything I think could drill through the spring pack.
 
Started pulling up the floor today. Something wet and sticky under the passenger side, soaked the whole pad but the metal looks fine. Drivers side wasn't wet or sticky but does have some surface rust. I'm sure a wire brush will take care of that. Any tips on easily getting up the pad bits that seem bonded to the floor? Just wire brush all of it?

Red and white wires were for a CB and I see the TC shifter lights. The other two run to the back. I believe the white and black goes under the seat and was previously a seatbelt sensor of some kind but it was already disconnected. I haven't traced the smaller red set back yet, but I'm guessing dome light power? Seems weird to run that one on the floor instead of up the pillar.

Hopefully this weekend I'll have some time to clean up this floor and start laying Kilmat down.
 
Wet and sticky sounds like coolant. Maybe the heater core?
It smelled like old coolant and thats what I was thinking. There weren't any obvious trails running down the firewall. I don't have a pressure tester but I ran the system on the Heat setting under Economy with the temp turned all the way up and it got warm. Flipped it to Normal AC setting with temp all the way up and it got warmer. Felt the lines going in and out of the heater core and they were both hot. I'll have to keep any eye on it and see if it leaks any more or if that was all old coolant. There was some sort of white pad wrapped in plastic under the insulation on that side but not on the drivers side. With the vinyl on top, I suppose its possible there wasn't enough airflow to dry it out all the way and it could have been an old leak. I doubt the heater has been run much in the last 6 months and I would have expected the upper areas of the insulation to also be wet where it met the firewall but it was just down on the lowest spot of the floor. I recall the previous owner saying he upgraded some piece of the AC system so I'm reaching out to see if it was because of a leak.

Thats what I was thinking Wes. It really doesn't look fresh.

The previous owner changed the compressor, condenser, and the lines. I'll start with checking the connections and keep an eye on it in case the core needs replacement.
 
I just did my heater core, not a bad job at all. Don't have to touch the ac side.
I have a suspicion water can leak in via the heater core tube openings. Or possibly the upper seam to firewall.
I put that black tar tape in the opening to heater tubes.
 
One broken extractor, two broken drill bits, and a broken punch later and that damn seat belt anchor bolt is still stuck. Guess it’s time to see if the local shop can do it.
