1988 gmc 2500 overland build

as for crate motors, you can get a brand new GM L31 TBI replacement long block for @ 2k
Clicky

They even make a 4 bolt version, its a bit more...

Clicky

Comes with Vortec heads, so you'd Need an intake manifold swap.

Edelbrock makes one...

that cooler isn't factory, and it was installed wrong.
What you want is the biggest stacked plate cooler you can physically fit. Install so the oil coming from the radiator is going in at the bottom, and the return to trans comes out at the top.
The way it was installed allowed for possible trapped air in the cooler.
You can't run an automatic trans in big ass heavy overland Suburban to cool.
ATK motor scare me have heard a lot bad stuff. consider Big Rays suggestions

Looking great glad to see you getting out there and using it.

Would that vortec motor be smog legal? Im in ca.

Any other mods to make it work? Chip or tbi wise?

I can only find the gm performance manifold. Do you have a link for the edelbrock 1? I like this option over atk because it ships 5 weeks faster too

The vortec is smog legal, you just hook up rhe egr. May need a new chip, idk.

I may have been wrong about the manifold. They may have stopped making them...sorry....

Thanks im going to make some calls on tuesday.

I bought the 2 bolt version in 05. Was going to do a multiport conversion on it, edelbrock made a unit for it years ago for tbi.

Still have it, going to carb ,& manual with it.

I think im going to do the 2 bolt if i can cancel my order with atk. I looked at tbichips.com and its one of their recommended longblocks also. They also recommend a custom chip and new ported throttlebody

GM used long oil coolers for the engine. B&M sells them as their own. Supercool or something like that. They are great coolers. I got another oil cooler from the junkyard and flushed it and used it on my trans…just had to get fittings. Been going solid for like 11 years.

Glad they're still in business.

I guess there are no l31 cores anywhere according to summit or jegs, they have no eta for rebuilds. So it looks like im sticking with the stock tbi 350 rebuild from atk

Thats odd...

They're brandy new factory engines.
Try Pace Chevrolet or Scoggin Dickey?

the one you linked is a jegs rebuild. the cheapest i have been able to find a factory l31 was 3300 and they dont ship till october. thats more than i want to spend

Thats the 4 bolt h.o.

I bet they quit making them (the standard version)...

Found a 2" set of rough country front springs with shocks that have about 1000miles on them. The guy is going taller. Would these ride the same as my stock springs with ez inch or worse? I would like a new set of springs since this truck has 180k miles on it but not sure about the brand

Rough country have a pretty high spring rate. So it may not ride like stock with an ez inch.

However, despite what most haters of rough country springs will say, I've had 4" rc springs for 15+ years and can't complain they are too stiff. My ride quality improved with better shocks when I put Bilstein 5100's on.

If you get them for cheap I'd run them. Get good shocks for sure.
