1989 Camaro RS

Actually drove it today. When I got home, I smelled a little antifreeze and went looking. Found one outlet on the heater valve leaking a little. No biggy, gave it a twist with the screwdriver and BOOM, face full of hot (not fresh running hot thankfully) antifreeze as the nipple broke off the valve.

Some cussing and dancing later (I wear glasses so my eyes were saved) I pulled the valve and went looking for a replacement in town. No good. No one had one. Got home and the "well, the antifreeze is already drained" thing hit and now here it sits....

I grabbed the Edelbrock TBI intake I've had for it and bam.... The luck continues....

So trying to source someone who can grind out the crack and fill it back in. :surepal:

That’s quite the coincidence!

I assume that is still the factory 305?

Yeah. I've been dealing with Dad being sick and broken down vehicles and just life and the Camaro has just sat. Hopefully I can get the intake fixed and back together quickly. I was hoping to have it ready to drop on once the gasket set arrives but now this.

The guy said he should have the intake repaired today. I'm gonna be gone through the weekend so it'll be next week before I can look at it. I got the parts ordered to install it and a new set of front struts and strut mounts.

This spring has been EXPENSIVE so far....

Making progress getting it back together. Spent most of the day driving around looking for the little things. Damaged o-rings, dried out grommets, bunch of little bits that stall progress.

I've got to get a new vacuum brake line bent up and hopefully finish it up sometime this week.

Back together and test driven. I still have to make a new brake booster line for it but I don't have a good way to bend 3/8 tubing here.

I've got a set of KY AGX front struts, mounts and some other bushings to install next.

I'm considering adding a second snorkel from another GMT400 air cleaner housing and the passenger side scoop from an early 80s Z too. Gotta make that decision before I blast and paint it.

The intake raised the TBI about 1/4" so I was able to do away with the air cleaner spacer and still clear the coil.

Here is how much more open the throttle body inlet is now with the spacer gone, the throttle body casting cleaned up, and the pod spacer.
