1989 Diesel Jimmy. What do we have here hmmmm

Building a little rock trail at my buddies Dads house.

Went out there today to try it in the Jimmy was fun.

Broke off my little side steps so its time to figure out some type of slider.

Although I am having t case issue not sure what it is but doing funky things and only in 4 wd.

Going to pull it tonight

t case out. Its fine.

Have had this nagging in the back of my head saying that it was something else.

Something I have never actually experienced.

So that axle pair I bought that had 4.56s in them, yah no. The rear axle yes. Front axle not so much. I have 3.73s in the front and 4.56s in the back.

No wonder I am having issues oh this sucks, sucks big time. Christmas is upon us and there is no money to spend.

Oh well pull the front shaft and be a lame duck for a while, which really sucks

Well at least you did not break anything

hey trying to be in a bad mood here!

Your right.

Probably time to go find a 14 bolt sf with 3.73s and put it in. Pull the 4.56s from the 10 bolt and save up for 4.56s for the 14 bolt

Local yards have a couple 14 bolt sf with 3.73s in em already

Well actually that will take a bit to even do that. Gotta save up, just really bummed cause I was looking forward to wheeling with the family alot this winter.

I have 2 options for you.
4.56 gears for d44 and a 14bsf 3.73
I am going to be in Idaho falls this Wednesday the same load I was doing last year.
I already left but will be passing close to my house and I can swing by and get them for you.
But I need to know before noon.
I guess I will call you

Issam to the rescue

Issam to the rescue

Issam called me. On the look out for a d44 front. I have a 10 bolt right now.

So the real question is what to spend money on.

If I can find the 44 I can be wheelable again sooner than later.

I shouldn't have to spend anything on the 44 just gotta get the guy to give it to me.

I want a 6 lug SF 14b so I think if I spend any money here it will be going that direction. I can get them with 3.73s ( factory gearing), then I could swap out the rear and keep the 4.56s for later when I could afford to regear the 14 b SF

I really hate having a 10 bolt rear which is odd cause I have never had an issue with it. But I have seen plenty of issues with other folks.

It would be kind of like the peaceful feeling once you put one tons on and have to get on the throttle for the first time. You just relax and hit the throttle cause you have tons now

Buddy of mine came up today to grab some parts I had of his.

We got to talking and his brother broke a 14 b SF shaft, its an 8 lug.

Went out to the garage and were going to pull apart my 8 lug SF and I was going to give him a shaft.

He asked how much and I said ( jokingly) trade me for a 6 lug SF and you can have the whole axle. He said ok!

Guess he knows where one is for way cheap.

So my buddy took my 8 lug SF to his brother and next weekend ( if I can get the t case back in) I will run down on Sunday and grab my new rear axle:D

So now I will have a 14b SF 6 lug. Not sure of the ratio but I have a used 4.10 gear set. I am need of a used 4.10 gearset for my 10 bolt. Anyone got one?

Possibly... its either 4.10 or 3.73. I'll have to pull the cover and check. I need to pull my flat tops off it anyways. :) and get the other set of ten bolts in the trash.

Ive got a nib motive 4.10 ring/pinion in my outbuilding Id sale if interested.

Duntz I probably can't afford new right now just looking for used.

So as things occur and people think they know what they are talking about my trade for a 8 lug SF for a 6 lug SF did not come to pass. Guy had no idea what a 6 lug SF was, he was thinking 10 bolt.

Got the t case back together, got running and I suppose I have a cracked hose on my fuel tank, its leaking pretty bad.

Sure hope its not the gas tank itself.

I am going to cut a hole in the floor to take a look, won't be a big deal just tacking it back into place.

I really need to start getting the other body ready.

Anyway the repairs continue :doah:

So the last couple of times I have started the Jimmy it has a terrible knocking sound, that goes away literally as soon as it fires.

Pretty sure I have another air leak in the fuel system somewhere in the vicinity of the tank but its not leaking any more and I have customers stuff to work on so it will wait.

It sounds like a terribly bad bearing on the bottom end, but you can only hear it cranking, goes away as soon as the engine catches and runs without the key in the crank position.

Checked the starter it seems fine.
