Always the answer
No progress. Why. Cause every time I started to work on something my buddy calls me to go look at a car.
Ended up heading to Utah last night to buy a Jeep. Not a bad deal either. Linked in the front, (YJ) 9", geared, some body armor. Seems to run decent.
So now he has that I told him I can't work on it till the Jimmy is running. So pardon our minor interruption. We now return you to your engine build

Finally had a day where I felt good and no one called me to help them
Got one head done.
Valves. Before and after lapping. The before valve looked very similar to the after valve
So proud dad moment. Bailey came out to help. I was explaining what everything did. Said do you remember how a 4 stroke engine works? She thought and said yep. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow!!
Anyway she helped me do 4 valves

Oh yah and painted the manifolds
I really did forget how long it takes to lap valves make sure everything is clean reassemble then clean again. Etc. etc. etc.
More progress to be made tomorrow!

Nice! How long should that paint last?
Wellllll it's BBQ paint. It by far lasts longer than any header paint I have ever used.
Also I plugged the holes and put my propane torch in there. To help cure the paint.
So like a week maybe two
Lemme know, I might paint mine. It's what the cool kids are doing.

Posting more to motivate myself but the other head is cleaned up.
Also need to source the washer under the valve spring. I'm missing one.
At some point the head I'm working on now was redone it has a couple of valves that are slightly different.
I have a 6.5 sitting in the garage so hopefully they have the same washer

Oh just cause I like pictures. This is how I clean valves.
I tape up the stem so the wire brush won't hit anywhere that goes into the guide.
Then extra tape up at the top so the Chuck does no damage.
Had to stop today because I ran out of brake cleaner. About the only decent degreaser/ aggressive cleaner I had was some gasoline. Wonderful cleaner. Kind of hard on the hands, especially with eczema. So yep I wussed out

You are reminding me I need to buy brakecleen when it's on sale next. Either that or make my own with acetone or some other solvent. 5 bucks a can can add up quick
Always have a big supply brake clean here in my garage. LOVE the picture of your daughter helping out!!!!!!

Cause I found the washer!!!!!
Got to thinking and I wasn't sure if I took em all off. I had some warm water in a 5 gallon bucket with soap I did the major cleaning with. Took the magnet and BAM rewarded with the washer
