I finished installing the new parts, but the K5's battery was dead. Not sure why it got drawn down so far but I've got it charging now.
I got the damaged bowls of my throttle body removed and replaced with the good bowls from Scott's. The swap wasn't too bad, although I briefly thought I had stripped the fuel line that plugs into the backside. I ended up stealing that piece from Scott's throttle body as well and everything went fine. I tried to stay calm and just take my time.
When installing the new injectors, I actually read the directions from AC Delco. There was a comment in there about placing the little nub on the bottom of the injector into the recessed portion of the bowl. I thought to myself..
man I bet I screwed that up the last time I did this. Sure enough, I took a look at my damaged piece and found this:
Somehow I managed to install both injectors "upside down" - both bowls had markings inside of them. I don't know if the connector pins on the injectors are pos-neg, but if so then they were flipped on both bowls.
All I can do is laugh at myself and move on. One of those school of hard knocks things... and it makes me feel like the Blazer is finally going to run well once I am done with this. Overall I feel confident with this job I did tonight aside from the torque spec on the screws. I was so scared to snap the throttle body bowl that I think I probably went a little too light. But I'm going to fire it up once the battery is charged and see if it leaks... then go from there.
Do you guys use loctite on the 8 throttle body screws? The AC Delco instructions said to use Loctite 262, which is red. All I have is Loctite 271 but they said anything stronger than 262 could damage things. I do have blue threadlocker... maybe I could put that on.
