1990 K5 Build ( Ol' Blue ) : Rocker rust...

I really like how beefy the u bolt plates, and perches are. Money is tight for another week or two. I can start marking out the perch locations and try and hunt down new centre pins for the leafs ...but i have some cleaning and painting to do Also. Should keep me busy enough this weekend.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Not much progress lately, been waiting on centre pins for the zero rates going in... Today i tinkered with some brake parts until i realized i need to do this with the parking brake cable attached...:doah: So i stopped after i got one side done... I primed the perches, u bolt plates, and zero rates.. I also cleaned up the burb doors i got as i am planning on swapping these on before my trip! And also added the stickers i got from @mrk5. Probably good for a few HP:popcorn: was also nice to start a scrap pile for all the crap laying around the garage

Nice!

That scrap pile... I would keep the yokes from the rear ends and that spare wheel and tire for sure.
Actually what gears are in the Rear 10 bolt 342 right? I might be able to use that!? Maybe...

The yoke from the rear end is too small, for a spare on the 14 bolt no? I have a full size matching rim and tire in the truck, i bought 5 tires and rims when i purchased my tires..i dont have space for this spare..

The rear is a gov locked 3.08 i think. I have the matching front aswell.. I could drag it back into the garage, and bring it out one day with rene, and visit ,if youd like?

I could also take anything else from the pile youd want?

Bring the tire and rim here. Good spare for my Blazer! I do see plenty that's good in the pile, however none of it is rare, and I don't need any of it in the immediate future.

Will do, ill throw it in the garage! And bring it over next time i stop by.

Would that rear yoke work for a spare on the front diff?

Yoke should Yep.

So many goodies you got there, but so far away haha

Rene said it....lots of good parts but nothing I could use any time soon over here too.
Don't save anything for me. But thanks for the offer! I would put it on kijjiji I have had some good luck selling on there.

The yoke is actually the same on a 10 bolt as it is for the semi floater. No need for a conversion joint either.

ahh i didn't know that. I figured it was a conversion u joint with the 14 bolt SF. I will definitely keep that yoke then.

yea.. nothing you couldn't find closer probably. Free if you know anyone here that would take any of it for ya

So today i got a little done on the truck. My u bolts are on backorder, till the end of the month. But i the ones i ordered, that are too long, will work for now. I got the old centre pins out, to add the zero rate,s and put in longer centre pins. Also got around to painting this section of the frame after 2-3 coats of poor 15

Does anyone know how this cap is supposed to seal to the yoke ? When i was cleaning all the crap out of it ( there was a lot as it was never changed in many years. Atleast it was kept full of grease.

I started fitting up the SS brake lines i had on my 10 bolt. They will work with some tweaking, and the parking cables will work as well! Im glad as i had just bought these lines when i ripped out the ABS. I wasn't sure if the wheel cylinders would be the same size.

I got the 14 bolt up under the truck for now. I was going to read the info i have on setting the pinion angle and tack the perches in place but i left it for now. Working on renes pontiac was a good way to continue the day. I also got my skid plate cleaned up and painted.

Does anyone know the inside spring measurements? So i can make sure the springs are straight when i finally weld the perches on? Had a bit of trouble looking for those measurements online.

I also ordered the hi beam low beam kit, Drivehshaft spacer for the front as the slip yoke is pretty extended after the lift. Im going to try and tinker with the doors tomorrow. I need to use my existing drivers side wire harnes, because the burb door, is set for 4 power windows at not two...Rene suggested making a connection at the door wiring so they just unplug. I think i remember a tutorial on easy off door pins, on here. So I'm sure i could do it ( wiring is my biggest downfall, as a do it yourself'R ) As well as pick up a xj shaft, Im 99% sure this is the right one by the photos, and what not. Going to bring my measuring tape this time :doah:

You were busy even before coming by my place today! And then we got a good chunk of stuff done on my pile too!

Where was the dude with the xj shaft again? I found a rad for the 57 in Round Hill, south of Tofield. We could carpool if the xj shaft dude is that direction? I was gonna leave here about 9:15 or so tomorrow...

Do those ubolts have enough threads to tighten all the way down? If so you just cut the extra off after.

I don't think so. They are real close. Id feel more comfortable with shorter ones, Id hate to bottom one out after a few drives and torquing.. it'd drive me crazy knowing it was there haha

EZ inches are installed upside down. Rounded edge towards the springs.

Crap!:doah: Thanks for letting me know, when i drop the axle to have the perches welded on i will switch them around. Makes perfect sense as flex on a square edge ,would be tough on the spring..

Better to catch it now than after its all up and good to go!

On the width thing I leave it all loose then get it squared to the body using pkumb bobs from the body for reference. Then I measure outside of perch to brake mount flange. Adjust, then I make marks, then I rotate the pinion for proper driveline angle.

This can be tough on your own but it's not bad

I'm gonna head there and give Nick a hand getting the 14 set up. I have done new perches etc a few times...
