1990 K5 Build ( Ol' Blue ) : Rocker rust...

That is rust free in my state.

Martin

Yea i hate the rust my truck has, but Itll last another year, or so until i can try and address some of it before it gets too bad. Im lucky this truck was very much loved by someone in its life ( not the past two PO's though:flipoff2: ) A lot of the rust areas had poor body work done, and the paint job was a cheapo, no tape kinda job. They don't use a lot of salt here but the winters are long.

Now that the underside is done for the most part, rust repair will be next big on the to do list, once i get a driveway or garage again.

I drove it to renes place today to get a better feel for it. There is a vibration, mainly noticeable around 30-40 km. Im going to try and use my shims either way, and see if it helps it at all. The new gears feel way better than before. and i really like having a passenger window that goes down:thumb:

Does anyone have any detailed information on how to remove the power mirrors carefully. I removed the one screw but can't make much progress on the cover ( it seems like ) .I want to make sure not to break them..

When i got home today after driving the blazer about 45 minutes to work on the highway, the vibrations were killing my inner soul.. So when i got home, I tried to put the shimed wedge facing forewards to push my pinion down 4 degrees. When i did, i noticed there would probably be bind on the yokes a little. So i spun them around and raised my pinion up. The vibration is extremely reduced!!. Its only present from 50-65 km. Once the lift was installed about a year ago, i developed chatter when i let off the gas, around the TCase area. Which now has almost complety gone away. I did notice the seal around my tailshaft housing ,is dirty, and its slightly leaking. Can i pull the slip out, And clean the seal? It looks like its in good shape. Im super stoked ,and going to drive it to work again tomorrow, and get a better feel for it.

finally gave her a bath aswell

Now i figure i can try and tackle some
Of this rust before i move. I will be in school to get my last year of trade school done, so ill have my sundays but if i put in the time,i should be able to get some done. Im going to pick up some 16g satin coat and patch some of this rust. I was thinking the front foot areas would be easier to learn, since i have no clue what im doing hahah. The rear driver side seatbelt mount area worries me a little though..

@max 02 do you still want these doors? I am sending blazinzuk the mirrors but the doors are going to get scrapd probably unless someone takes em on kijiji. I could drive em out one day with rene, ive been meaning to drive the blazer a fair distance anyway before i move just to make sure she runs great for hours on the road.

Okay sounds good. I will try and find them a home.

Wow, when we set your pinion angle I already felt I was aiming it too high...crazy that bringing it up another 4 degrees made things better. It looks like it's set for a CV shaft right now.

Yea... I dont really like it to be honest.. Makes me think the pinion gear wont get lubricated enough... Its still vibrating and still annoying, but better than the bad vibration before changing it. For shits and giggles i think i will try and flip the shims around, and see if it actually does make contact after test driving it around the block.

The ring gear should fling plenty of lube up at the pinion...

Ok cool

If this ends up being the best angle to elimintate vibrations, is there any downfall to running the pinion this high? Ive tried looking for 2 degree shims sorta. Doesnt seem to be any.

Hopefully i can shim it down 2 degrees. Avoid any sort of potential contact and get rid of the vibes all together

When i got home from work , i crawled under the blazer and started looking for the sm465 reverse switch. I found where its located. It was unplugged, and filled with road grime on both ends once i located it. Cleaned it out and plugged it in. No luck. Started to chase the wires and found in the birds nest, that the wire was split. Crimped on two connectors, and i got em working. Also got the new tails lights installed. I Got these on evilbay brand new for cheap! I still have one 4 pin disconected at the harness but i dont think its for anything...?

Looks good with the factory lights. I have the same clear euro ugly ones on mine but I'm just going to smoke them.

Holy crap, that rig is starting to look legit. :woot:

Piece by piece!!

I got these with the inserts, lenses, hardware for about 30 bucks on ebay. Smoking them would make them look alot better!
