1990 K5 Build ( Ol' Blue ) : Rocker rust...

@Scribbles thanks I've been catching up on that thread but I haven't gotten to that part yet. I'll jump forward a bit.

Mine doesn’t even have the rot but I like the look so much I may try doing it this way. I may not be all there in the head.:dunno:

As in cutting good sheet metal for box tubing sliders?

Forget the shitbox Blazer, I like the long box truck!

Yea I know what ya mean haha. See lots of square trucks driving around.. well not a lot but a fair bit . So many in good shape too. All the blazers are gone and rotten by now ..

The body design on the K5 is a lot more rust prone than the pick-ups...like nobody here has ever figured that out. :D

Have you seen how @the_blaze did Plan B? I’ve always liked how they turned out. If you go back one or two posts you can see where he talks more about materials and stuff. I’m linking you to the mostly finished product.

PLAN B
I'm a huge fan of cutting RUST out. (I die a little when people cut up clean rust free trucks) I did a pretty high boatside on one of my blazers, I was able to keep fully functional doors and power windows. I think its my favorite mod i have ever done on a blazer, and honestly it's really easy to do and it wasn't terribly expensive.

I figured, that’s why I haven’t gone nuts and done it. I like the look is all! Don’t burn me at the stake!

I feel ya for sure. Im a huge fan of cutting rust out i just want it to be structurally sound as well, and dont want to cut more than i am capable to fix atm without a garage, a hill for a driveway. Ive heard cutting is like tattoos... once you get one or two done, and you realize how easy it is, its hard to stop!! hahah and i have enough tattoos to know i fit that sort of mindset.

Im going to cut some rust out for sure. My only hesitations is its winter here and my trucks in the driveway, so one side at a time hopefully. Gonna have to make some 10 hours days and just crank out a side at a time. This weekend ill be going to the metal supermarket and getting some 3/16 square tubing to start mocking them up.

Im heading to hawaii in april for 7 weeks so as long as i get it done before then ill be on schedule. The rear can rust some more before i cut it all out later this year or next ( worst case scenario )

I like what ya did with plab b alot. Looks wicked dude. Im almost caught up.. page 40 or so! I did see all the blazer bash photos so i know what it looks like now though.

Yea i dont know if i even want to cut my front fenders... itd look ridiculous probably if i didnt though... ill mock it up and see if itd look bad or not, but they are OE and 100% rust, dent free... almost like gold around here

7 weeks in Hawaii?

Don't touch the glowing orange and gooey rocks. :D

"It tastes like burning..."

Yea my girlfriend took a travel nursing job . She took an almost 4 month position in hawaii. ( Shes an american born and raised for 11-12 years in ojai, CA ). This makes it easy for her to hop the border and work. They pay her a decent wage, plus flights, but the per diem is crazy, 125 dollars a day tax free. So she asked me to come live there for the last 7 weeks as i only have to pay for the flight and her work will cover everything else for me. Figured itd be a good way to spend my 29th birthday as well.

We were in the teens last week. Today was beautiful with a high temp of 39 degrees. "Greatest snow on earth" ;) i know we are a lot warmer than some places but its not as mild as arizona or florida. Those guys have it good in the winter.

Yea thats definitely a bit worse than i had thought, but still not too bad. Im guessing because of the elevation? Its about 46 F (daytime high) here in the winters, but it rains a lot usually ( not this year thankfully ).

Ordered up the two rear cab supports. Ditched the window glass cam channels for now, as they were 40 bucks for the pair ( not sure why...?) And I was stalling on clicking the button because of funds. I did order the 5 dollar rivet and rollers to remind me I need to fix my window. Mine are basically squares at this point, and the channels they roll in are Swiss cheesed. If I remember correctly @tRustyK5 said something about those rivet rollers one day about 4 years ago in his garage. Hopefully that they are simple and easy to change... but for some reason I think it was the opposite ha.

Drill the backside of the rivet so the rivet and square chunk of roller come off together. Install new roller and rivet. Make sure the roller rolls easily...
