1990 K5 - The Dent Side K5

90 K5 Blazer on tons and 37’s
The weather has been nice and warm here so the top came off! I found a generic canvas top on Amazon and put it on.

Anyone know what the status is for Rubicon during the shelter in place? It should technically be open since it’s a county road right?

Today I wrapped up some yard work and plugged away some more on the K5. I was able to put back all the interior trim i took out for the cage. I had some left over sound deadening material so i hid that behind the rear panels and under the floor mats in the cab. The interior on this truck was pretty hammered when i got it but it’s better than nothing. Having some of it back should help reduce in cab vibrations.

Thanks! I had that rust repair I did in the cab corners. After putting the bed liner on it’s pretty much impossible to tell. I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s just about dry now and everything is pretty even and thick. I think the horror stories are from people not mixing it well enough beforehand. I had enough left over that I was able to do a section on the inside door sill which should help make it easier to get in/out if our shoes are wet.

I also ordered beadlocks today :saweet:

Wheels and tires are now posted in the classifieds. Beadlocks should be shipping tomorrow.

I’m loving the new stance. Will definitely be trimming a lot more :hack:

Cheap sound/heat barrier installed and an outdoor rug I cut up to fit. I put Velcro down to make it easy to remove to clean. We are planning on putting the dog in the back and I didn’t want to worry about his paws on a sharp edge on the metal. I was also able to rig up a harness setup for him. Ill post some pictures and a review after the trip.

Ammo can speaker boxes. My old 4Runner had these and I loved them. You get a speaker box and waterproof storage.

Installed a fan too for the bulldog. They cant control heat well so everything helps! I need to clean up the wiring a tad.

Back from the trip, the K5 did great and we didn’t have any real issues (Well, not with the K5 at least) which was surprising for the first run. The only thing that came up was that the power steering cooler was seeping a little bit of fluid.

We ran Brewer Lake the first day which is pretty mild except for the last 100 yards or so. The squeeze rock was fun and only ended up with a little rash on the passenger front.

The second day we did the right fork of Bald Mountain which is the more challenging side. There was one spot i slipped a little bit from a tree root, a little more throttle got me over it with some help from a spotter. A front locker would have made the whole day a cake walk.

The only issues we had were towing on the way home. The wheel bearing on one of the trailer wheels started smoking about a half hour outside of our hometown. We unloaded the K5 and my wife drove it back the rest of the way over the Altamont Pass. I limped the trailer home and the wheel fell off as i was backing it into the side yard. Couldn’t have been better timing!

The interior doors for the house that have been back ordered for months finally came in so I’ve been busy with house projects since the last trip. Today I finally had a day “off” and decided to tackle the storage basket with the help of a neighbor.

The basket itself is made out of aluminum and is pretty light.

Interlocking tube clamps so I can take it off and roll the window up with the top on.

Love the build so far! Any particular reason you didn't go with the ABomb bumper center? How tight is the 10k winch in there, and what brand is it? I recently bought a 12k Apex winch from harbor freight, but not sure if it would fit in the CFM cradle. Price point is definitely a lot better than the ABomb...

thanks! I went with cfm because it appeared to tuck better and not affect approach angle (based on pictures online), i like how it bolts into the factory crossmember in the holes for the swaybar in addition to the frame horns. The fit and finish of the cradle and wings is really impressive and the price is pretty hard to beat for what you get.

I’m running a 10k road shock (old harbor freight, before badland) with a synthetic rope. The cables from the solenoid mount on the side of this model and are close to the lower potion of the C channel frame. There is an old thread on here somewhere that was started by CFM and documents the different versions of the cradle. He provided the maximum dimensions of what winch could fit but let me know if you need any measurements.
