1990 K5 - The Dent Side K5

90 K5 Blazer on tons and 37’s
Anybody else fall victim to the recent sales?

I ordered ORD’s front sway bar and some other misc. parts that I’ve been putting off
Also ordered some things from Ruff Stuff for the engine cage.

The order from Ruff Stuff showed up today, just waiting on two more boxes from ORD so I can tear this thing apart again.

Plan is to get the front sway bar mounted up so I can make sure the new shock location clears everything.

I’m trying to find some creative ways to redo the rear shock mounts. Anyone have any build threads they recommend? Not opposed to cutting the bed...

Some updates, I’m just now getting around to replacing the oem bushings in the rear springs since I ran out of time before the last trip. Such a pain...

One side is done!

installed the ORD sway bar, still need to weld the bungs on to the DIY4X bump stop plate. I’m excited to see how much of a difference it makes.

Also added a Ruff Stuff pinion guard. During this process I realized the rear drive shaft is too long. Looks like a SYE and another Tom Woods driveshaft is on the short list.

Still waiting on the rear u-bolts i ordered from ORD. Not their fault, they shipped out next day. USPS decided to take them on a trip around the country first. They’ve been on vacation heading towards the east coast for almost two weeks now. Last location i can see with tracking is Indianapolis. Hopefully they make it to CA eventually.

The last few things I’ve bought from eBay have wandered around in usps site seeing for an extra week or more. I’m waiting on a tool kit now that had an eta of last Tuesday but tracking still shows it in the state it shipped from. :doah:

Usually USPS is pretty good. Not sure why there’s such a struggle the last month. I understand delays around November and December but right now seems so weird to me. Hopefully you get your tools soon and it’s not holding up any projects. That’s the worst.

Do you plan to keep it connected while wheeling? I don't know much about the sway bar except that it works with crossover.

Nope! It has disconnects and mounts on both sides to slide the end links on when you don’t want it engaged to the axle. Post 83 has a picture of them since i didn’t have the weld nuts on the spring plate yet.

B5BB4992-EDAE-4AD9-8E38-E2031D2080AD.jpegParts started rolling in this week! Planning a trip to Rubicon mid-June with some buddies. Hopefully I’ll be able to find time to get all this stuff on the K5 before then.

pictured:
SYE with 1350 CV flange
Yukon 35 spline hubs
Yukon super joints
Brake line kit (need to clean up the 14 bolt after the disc conversion)
ARB compressor
ARB breather kit
ARB locker - 14 bolt
Yukon 4340 front shafts w/ 35 spline stubs

Ordered and waiting on:
DIY4X flatback D60 cover with ram mount
PSC hydro assist kit
Riddler 14 bolt diff cover
Lube lockers f & r
ARB locker - Dana 60
US forged 1350 u bolt yoke for the 14 bolt
Sierra 5.38 gears

I still need to order a new rear shaft. I’ll need to install the SYE to get that measurement first.

my wallet hurts...

Nice! Do you know the other full size guys int the east bay?
I do not, but I’m pretty new to the area (~6 years). Before that I was in the South Bay and the central coast.

I see a sweet K30 with a military trailer as a bed running around Livermore/Pleasanton from time to time. Crazy to think theres more of us knuckleheads hiding out in this area :D

I grew up in Morgan Hill, moved from there in 2003. We need to plan another CK5 trail run.

Here's out chit chat thread about 2021 wheeling trips. https://ck5.com/forums/threads/trail-trips-2021-f-covid.341971/

Nice! I grew up in Gilroy off Watsonville road. It was always faster to go into Morgan Hill for anything. Have you been back in the past 2 years? Downtown MH looks dramatically different.

Small world, I still have friends that live off Watsonville road on the MH side. I drove through last year on my way to Pacific Fab to buy an engine. Definitely looks different and I don't miss it at all.

I had a local rear end shop set up the axles. Ended up going with 5.13’s due to lead time.

The same night I picked it up I threw her on jack stands and started tearing into it. I installed the chromoly axle shafts, super joints, and Yukon hubs.

I ripped out the 241 for the ORD SYE. Shoutout to @Chevy350Ben for the tip on the snap ring pliers he bought. They made the whole process a breeze.

Once that was done and back in I started on the hydro assist. I redid the alignment since I rushed it last time and got it within spec before I welded on the tabs on the tie rod.

After that, I welded the reservoir mount onto the core support and finished up the plumbing. I did everything with AN fittings and ran bulkheads through the core support for the cooler.

Then I finished up the compressor and solenoid wiring/plumbing for the ARB’s. Everything is working great so far and no more leaks!!
