1991 v3500 - big dumb lifted forever truck

I’m hoping that I can get the chromoly keepers on with doing that and not running into a fully compressed spring. I’ve got more learning to do to make sure my parts all work together like that.

That is exactly how you do it actually. I really don’t feel like pulling the injectors and fuel lines and making the tool to pressurize the cylinder but that’s the right way to do it.
I’m also not yet fully confident in myself doing this so it’s time to learn it in its entirety apparently. I had real good help when it was first done.
If you don't want to make a fitting to pressurize it, you can feed a rope with the piston low then turn it up to compress the rope against the valves

The rope trick has a possibility of the rope not wanting to come back out, and or, cutting bits of it up in there.

Guys change valve springs all the time in chassis when doing an exhaust brake. It will be easy. Just get one of the many tools available for compressing the springs and go to town. YouTube University if you need to.

Thanks! I’m not sure what to do with this but this will come up sometime. I already have some PYO wheels that I think look SO good on these.

I’ll drive it to work and see what it needs and get a feel for it’s temperament.

Put twelve hours of seat time on the k30 today. Brought it home a square buddy.

Having this truck and a newer Dodge Cummins (least I think remember that correctly) which do you prefer driving the most? Especially on longer trips, if you can answer that about the blue truck.

I ask as I am going to be buying a truck sometime. I would prefer a diesel as it will be hooked to a car hauler and possiblly have a slide in camper in the bed. I will mostly car pool with the wife so the truck will mostly end up setting a lot. Ill drive it some during the week/weekend but for everyday commuting we will be driving her car. So I often debate about buying/building/having one built and do a Cummins in a squarebody.

I prefer driving this over the dodge but not because it’s better. It is just to stroke the ego and have a rocket ship square body.
It was to build something I had never done before and learn new stuff.

The dodge is better in nearly every way.
It’s an 06 crew cab long bed 4x4. 5.9 g56 271 with 3.73s and 295s. It is 2500 pounds heavier and has 100 less horsepower and 200 foot lbs less than the k30 but it is still better. It stops better, handles the load better, has a better frame, longarm front and progressive rear springs, ac is better, radio is definitely shit but it’ll do. I put fourth gen seats in it and those are better to.

I figured as much but wanted to ask.

I don't disagree with your opinion on either truck. LOL. I'm like you, Id probably prefer the Squarebody.

Yeah but it's a dodge! :haha:

@obijuank5 you COULD make it better than the dodge in every way, just takes $$$. At least i hope so, since that my build’s objective lol.

That said you got an awesome truck that most would kill for as it sits.

I know that what you’re going for. I suppose I could put all the doodads that the dodge has onto the k30 but at what point do you lose the essence of driving a square?
I feel like the k30 is as good as it can get without overstepping the line into that area.
It’s all mechanical, vent windows, leaf springs, and solid axle with locking hubs. Once you cross those lines you’re stepping into the wrong century for me.

Its all about charm.

I guess it follows me everywhere I go. For example I much prefer traditional houses, hate modern/new builds. Our current house was built in 1940, but we have renovated inside to get most modern creature comforts but keeping as much of the charm as we could (ie original hardwood floors, original crown molding/trim, etc). I guess its the same with the square CC.

Dont worry, I will make sure I still have to slam the doors to get them to close all the way lol.
