1993 3/4 Ton Suburban Build (Solid Axle Swap)

I’ll be going to Utah in December (hopefully) to pick up a burb from Keith, if you can’t find hubs by then I could likely track something down and bring with. They’ll atleast be somewhat close
Sweet you bought that blue one he was selling?

I'll keep that in mind...thanks for the offer

I'm free most evenings and can run to Riverton to check them out for you, its about 10 minutes away from home on the highway.

Wow $60 is cheap!

Yeah, That's about what I was hoping to pay. I had heard from other guys that this ford stuff should be cheaper and easier to get than GM stuff. For a while I thought they were full of crap, but I guess I should just be patient sometimes, haha. So I guess I can eat my words now, haha.

So what should be nice about this is once I put new seals on the hubs, and put some new d50 ttb rotors on there, I can use my existing spindles and my existing hub lockouts, and my existing calipers/pads. So a bit easier/cheaper than trying to convert a gm d60 from DRW to SRW

So I didn't read back through this. TTB 50 hubs work to convert a Dana 60?

For ford stuff, apparently yes. Don't try and put them on a GM or Dodge 60 though...

Right. Fird axle. I wasn't paying attention

Yeah, since this is a ford d60, you can use a dana 50 ttb hub to convert a ford d60 from DRW to SRW. The F250's that had the d50 ttb used the exact same outer hub as the SRW ford d60's. The only thing you have to remember going this route is you need to use brake rotors for a d50 ttb too (as they are obviously different how they mount to the hub as compared to the DRW d60 I currently have). But other than that, they will just bolt on. The internal locking hub is the same, the brake calipers are the same. As far as I know the spindles are the same (although, I did hear someone say they are different, but will still work as long as you use the correct rotors as I already mentioned).

This may be one of the few things I've seen ford do that makes things easier to convert than a GM axle.

Today I installed all new bearings, races, seals, and rotors onto these TTB d50 hubs

Then swapped the dually hubs out for the d50 hubs. I must say, this was really freaking easy to convert and relatively inexpensive too. I also added new brake pads. I should replace the calipers too, but I think i’ll wait and do that after I swap it into the truck and do the brake lines at the same time. Still have a few brackets to cut off and paint it up before its really ready to go in. Making slow and steady progress

I'm in no rush but if you happen to be coming down through eastern Utah and still have those dually hubs I may be interested in buying them. Like I said though no rush so if you sell them up there no biggie. You should've done these https://shopspeedhouse.com/parts/speed-house/dbb-dmax-kit.html so I could see how they are lol. My brakes are iffy with drilled and slotted rotors and good aftermarket pads. Mostly due to the MC and a vacuum booster though. I'm going to have to upgrade or something since I will most likely have to start pulling doubles once we add in some bigger atvs for the kids. Or go to a bigger truck that can handle a GCWR of like 25,000 lbs.

I’ll let you know. I very well may be going through that part of UT sometime in the near future. Right now the dually hubs are just sitting in my shop.

Those brackets are pretty cool...kinda expensive but cool (and prettt cool to keep ABS too). I bet if you ditched the vacuum for hydroboost MC it would make a difference. My burb already has hydroboost so I thi k it will be fine for my uses on this one

I had today off work so I worked on everything else I could on the axle. I cut off all the ford brackets on the axle and ground it all smooth. I also clearanced the housing so that I can bolt up standard leaf springs u-bolts (since this is a ford d60 that has the wider spring perch, you have to do this to swap it into a gmt400 to run leafs).

I now need to order some parts. I need to order up the cross-over steering kit, need to order the sas brackets, and some of the misc. stuff like u-bolts, leaf springs, etc. So will start ordering soon.

Also, i’m not gonna paint the axle yet cause I need to weld on tabs for shocks and a steering stablizer. Once I do that then I’ll paint it.
