1994 Jeep YJ - The YardJeep

1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ 2.5L/AX5/NP231/HP30/D35
So I ordered the Advance Adapters AX5 to AX15 kit from Quadratec as AA was backordered also and AA was $80 more than Quadratec even with the Advance Adapters "black friday" sale. Which wasn't really a sale because they raised all their prices then most stuff was 10% off bringing everything I wanted to be roughly 4% off. It was definitely a Kohl's move. Really not impressed with AA after that.

I was having a hard time finding a deal on a Dakota bellhousing. By the time I bought a new bellhousing, paid $50 for a bushing from AA, and bought a new clutch disc it was just as much as buying the AA kit.

Anyway, I'm still also waiting on a SYE from JB Conversions. I want their yoke as it is shorter than a normal Spicer 1310 CV yoke. I don't want to re-buy driveshafts so I'm playing games with parts trying to get the right length.

I did finally pick up an AX15 with what is essentially Toyota R151 gears in it from a 2.5L VM TD Cherokee (Chrysler part number 52108121AB):
[AX5] [AX15] [AX15 XJ 2.5L TD]
1st: 3.93:1 3.83:1 4.31:1
2nd: 2.33:1 2.33:1 2.33:1
3rd: 1.44:1 1.44:1 1.44:1
4th: 1.00:1 1.00:1 1.00:1
5th: 0.85:1 0.79:1 0.83:1
Rev 4.74:1 4.22:1 4.22:1

I was looking for something that went better with the spin-to-win of the 2.5L hundred and nothin' horsepower engine. I was about ready to put a NV3550 in it (they're cheaper than AX15) but I really didn't want a taller 3rd and 5th gear as the engine can barely hold 5th with the AX5 without a top on (must be aero is way worse topless). And I kept finding AX15s that were overpriced and clapped out, or by the time I showed up someone else had already bought one. So I paid $750 for one from a 2.5L diesel XJ.

SM465 with a bellhousing for a T4 from a 2.8 V6.....I put one of these in a YJ and it was amazing for crawling around. The 2-3 gear split sucks though, the squirrels lose all their pep.

The ****en Advance Adapters kit is backordered to the end of February now. I made a separate order for the input shaft flywheel bushings (bought two) and they're supposed to be here next week. I'm trying to find a bellhousing, and if I can, I'm going to cancel the AA AX15-2.5L kit.

So that has stalled me.

The JB Conversions SYE kit is still backordered also.

I have a Teraflex super short SYE I might just use instead. Then buy a longer rear driveshaft. I kind of wanted to stick with the standard length SYE because then I don't need a new driveshaft... and the leaf springs help protect the driveshaft. I need a shorter yoke like what comes with a JB Conversions SYE (it's about 5/8" shorter) and it's like $100 shipped from them... so might as well buy a whole SYE. The AX15 is 1.75" longer than the AX5 and I can only go rearward with the rear yoke about an inch before I'll have to cut the tub some more to fit the CV.

I ordered a bunch of other shit. I have enough stuff to fix the rust on the body. Tons of new hardware like a hood kit, door kit, and windshield hinge kit. I ordered a set of YJ flares I'm going to modify like I did the busted ones on it.

I found another YJ I might buy. It has good half doors with aftermarket slider windows... and a good lightweight late model YJ hardtop. I have CJ full hard doors and hardtop but both are heavy as **** so I don't use them. Thought was to put the CJ shit on that YJ and resell it.

I'm still looking for a JKR also.

I have been puttering with it. Got the winch all the way on, put in the Tuffy glovebox and underhook box (keyed to match the center console). Started wiring shit permanently.

I don't really want to tear it apart to do body work and not have a trans ready to put back into it I'm going to cut out the driver floor, easier to do without the trans in it). Mostly because it's wintertime and I like to park both of our daily drivers in the garage... having 3 vehicles in there makes it pretty tight.

The underhood toolbox is smaller than I thought it would be. It fits all the tools for all the trail repairs I wanted to have, but not enough room for spare parts (ignition related) that I want. So I might make a little magnetic box to hold some shit in the tiny glovebox. I wanted the locking glovebox to be for documents and spare parts. The center console was intended to be used for other day to day shit like binoculars and stuff.

I incorporated into the winch contactor mount a spot to fasten a telescoping bottle jack.
