$200 K5 (454 K5 now) *too much junk in the trunk

Well shit.

Broke my ankle. Had surgery. 6 weeks at least on crutches, no weight on foot doctors orders. That totally screws up wrenching, snowmobiling and skiing. Not sure how long for physical therapy. Probably get a walking boot around March.

Ramp slipped unloading a snowmobile into the shop. Was going to do a quick bearing seal and head up the mountain. I jumped clear but landed all on my left foot and broke some bones. I used to be indestructible. Getting old blows. In the dark alone too, could have been worse.

Surgery went OK. Metal plate and screws. Narcotics and a recliner for like 2 weeks now. Kind of been in a fog. The pills were really making me feel bad after a while. Cold sweats, hot fever feeling while still having a normal temp. Quit the pills 3 days ago and now I feel great. Recreational pill poppers are idiots, that stuff sucks. No real pain from my foot, just need to follow the doctors orders and heal it right. Running out of Netflix.

As far as My K5 goes I hope to get back to it in March. I probably won't get to ski again this season, maybe the tail end. Might get to snowmobile some but I expect there will be time where I can get around OK but just cant do sports. Probably get to trail ride with my kids but probably not backcountry riding which usually eats up my winter weekends. This will actually get me a bunch of shop time in the spring for the K5 and since I am going stir crazy right now I hope to make some good progress in the future.

Take care of yourselves gentlemen, life comes at you fast and without warning.

That sucks. I'd hate being down, I've always got a million things going on. You better sub to the Motortrend channel. Pretty cheap and lots to watch. The pain pills suck too. Me and my wife never use them for surgeries and stuff. Much better off just dealing with it. Hope you heal fast.

Man, that sucks.
But as you realized we are getting old and less resilient so we need to find our new limits or we'll be in trouble like this.
Take your time to heal right but don't completely go immobile.
Try to do something with your upper body, keep oxygen flowing strong, it helps the whole body heal faster.

Wow glad you got out of the predicament, before you found in the spring.
I know this 5 hour surgery 9 screws, suck in a chair 20 hours a day. TV, computer, and can't go get your own cup of coffee.
I hope you do recover by March, I was off work a year and 3 weeks.
3months light duty. Still can't run, not enough range of motion.
A word of advice stay away from any food or drink with phosphoric acid, at least while healing. It directly effects your bones.

Heal up

Well that sucks. I hope the recovery goes smoothly.

Ouch.... that sucks. May be a good time to learn a new hobby while you have the downtime.

That sucks. A friend of mine was in a similar situation a few months ago and he bought one of those knee scooters to get around.

Got the cast off. In a walking boot. Hurts to walk on it, still using a bit of crutch support. Doc said it will take a few days to get the foot used to bearing weight. 4 weeks in the boot but hopefully I can get around better. Physical therapy after the 4 weeks. Summers coming.
Here is the xray, no more metal detectors for me.

Hell dude. That’s a crappy deal. Take the time to heal up right.

Yes, following the doctors orders. He explained bone healing which I did not know about. First couple weeks it soft sets. Then the next 4 weeks it heals to bone by putting calcium into the breaks. That's where I am now. Its considered healed together. The next 4 weeks the body actually replaces the calcium in the healed areas with even denser bone and calcium. Walking on it actually helps this process. After that the bone is full strength and I will be ready for the physical therapy.

Pretty happy to have the cast off. Sitting here with my bare foot out in the air feels so much better. I spend 80% of my awake time on my feet, working, housework, even my computer is usually on a tall counter that I stand at. This sitting around has made my calluses start to flake and peel, looks pretty gross. My ankle muscles are pretty weak. I am going down to Arizona for spring break in a couple weeks, a road trip will be nice. Need to walk on the boot as much as possible and get some strength back. Asked my doctor if I could swim, he said sure. Asked him about the waterslide, he was not impressed. Just have to take it easy for another month. Its not a problem, weather still not great, work is handled, daily drivers all work. I just am not a sit around guy.

I need to hook up heater hose. The 2 nipples on the pic get connected, water pump to intake. I think I need to come out of the intake at the black plug and go to the heater core. Then out of the heater core into the radiator port. What's the black plug in the water pump for?
