2000 GMC K2500 Sierra Crew Cab Stepside

Hit up a u-pull-it place today and scored two compass/temperature auto dimming rear view mirrors!

My truck has the wiring in the cab for the temperature but apparently not under the hood. I'm going to have to go back and try to find out where those wires go through the firewall. I expected them to be in place since the truck has the proper wires coming from the mirror and down the a-pillar.

Bought the gentex or whatever sensor to add it on my 91. Love it. Good score

Been wanting to do a Denali front end swap for a while. Found an Escalade in the pull a part last month and researched and the Denali and Escalade use the same front end, except the grill shell.

I finally made it back there today and got the fenders. I was in the Xterra so I didn't have room for the hood or radiator support.

I've got to try to get back over with the truck and get my hood before someone else grabs it....

I've been searching for trucks for a few years now. Well, I finally sold my old Jeep and then found this sitting 4 hours away outside of Raleigh, NC. Went and checked it out, drove it, haggled and left it sitting. Spent a bunch of money truck hunting for another month and finally decided if the offer I got on this one was still good, I would get it. Called and the guy told me he would still take what we agreed on last time, I told him to get the paper work ready I would see him the next day.

She was the personal truck of a contracting business owner from South Carolina and as such, is pretty clean. Zero rust, just sand every where and she's a little dirty inside and dented on the outside. But, I don't want a show truck, I want a nice truck that I'm not afraid to work with. 267k miles on the clock and still ticking along just fine.

The day we brought her home:

Had to replace the hood release latch, park brake release latch, put in new head light, park light and marker light lenses on the front, had ball joints put in and got a set of Michelin LTX M/S2 tires in 285/75/16 Load Range E tires put on her.

The tires scrubbed pretty good so I jacked the torsion bars up 4 turns and that got me about an inch of lift in the front and opened up plenty of room for the 285's to do their thing.

Next I changed the thermostat, both temperature sensors, and the antifreeze as it was still the original (looking) DEX-COOL that is known to break down and start attacking the aluminum it is designed to protect. The temperature gauge is bad but I'm looking at getting another gauge set to have a place in Richmond rebuild, put my mileage in and install when the mileages match. I'm proud of the 1/4 million miles on this thing, hope I can get it to 1/2 million. :waytogo:

I've always loved the idea of a crew cab step side, and since I own a crew cab with a "well worn" 6' bed, I figured now is the best time to put one together. I lucked out and scored a pretty clean (rust wise) bed from a kid who was parting out his mud truck. $200 with tail gate, new tail lights, and it is already bed lined.

Coming home with the bed:

I had wanted a set of the newer aluminum wheels for it, but the steelies with caps and rings are really growing on me and I think I'm going to stick with them. They need a little clean up, but the whole truck needs that.
That thing would look super cool, with 42’s on it. That’s a sweet truck, especially with the stepside.

That stepside is a different look for a crew cab. I put some E rated Coopers on my 3/4 ton burb about 7 years ago....they have about 1000 miles on them.

My diesel quit...

It's just about time for new tires. The GMC hub caps that are supposed to fit my H2 wheels will be here today. The H2s are wider than my steelies but that seems to all be toward the outside of the wheel well.

That has me concerned about tire fitment. I've been running 285/75/16s for years on the steelies but they rub a little when I'm turned hard over. My Coopers spec to 32.8". I'm looking at the 265/70/17 tire size for a 31.8" OD and open up a little space in there. The 275/70/17 is an option as well but they only gain me like 1/4" clearance at 32.2". Don't feel like it's worth chancing $1500 in tires on it.

Ive ran H2's on a bunch of trucks and a 265 is gonna be way too small. I ran a 285/70 with a lil crank and only rubbed on the bumper filler piece.

All I had to do to mine to clear the 285/70/17 was cut the plastic filler pieces at the bottom of the fender half an inch below the top of the bumper.
It looked good too

Mine clears the front OK right now. It hits the rear of the passenger side fender flare. Hard enough it's cracked it.

Oh I have those flares on my 2500 suburban and I had to cut quite a bit on the inside of the flare to clear the 255/80/17 which measure 34.5"
The outside still is all there

Was looking at trans temp on the way to the beach and noticed my LTFT were 10%+! Popped the TB hat off and the seal around it is toast. Ordered a 3D printed replacement off eBay and wrapped the original in electrical tape to hopefully seal it up a little for the remainder of the trip.

Started by cleaning the MAF and then started inspecting the inlet tract since the MAF wasn't really dirty.

New TB hat gasket installed but still little to no improvement in LTFTs. Next I'll test the fuel pressure and FPR but for the moment, my knee is keeping me sitting. Going stir crazy...

Dude I feel that. I had surgery on Tuesday and I’m just now moving around slowly.
