2000 GMC SAS: Hydro assist assistance

Cool build. I have been searching to find someone doing a sas with a chevy 60. Can you post some pictures of what your exhaust looks like? Just curious how you cleared the hangers and driveline on the passenger side.

I'll try to remember to take a picture when I'm off work later this week. I forgot to add in my PM, if you've got any questions at all dont hesitate to ask.

I still have and wheel this thing.

Sold the 40's and the 42's. Daily drove it on the 37s for a few months. Found a deal on some pretty worn 40" TSL's on some allied 15x12 rockathons with 3 spares. Been wheeling at the local place, Big Red, mainly. It's close and I like the owner. Got it stuck pretty bad at an event they had a few weeks ago. Long story short, we stopped when it got soft and asked for help. The guy shows up in a reg cab ifs truck and proceeds to give it the gentlest tug ever on a snatch rope. Hearing the truck I'm attached to go wide open I follow suit. He's in low and low. Needless to say I'm buried at this point. Broke the radiator fittings off the firewall. Broke the passenger door handle. The interior looks like a crime scene, smashed the front fender and headlight and core support, and filled everything below the waterline up with water. Nearly pulled the hitch out of the frame. Two 10k's on jeeps worked it out after about an hour after several spirited but failed attempts by a bunch of toyotas.

You can see how not stuck we were.

Then how stuck we got.

Then when it came out.

Then the damage. To be fair I ran into a wall on the way out. The power steering pump was tired and I was tired, I went to turn and it went straight.

I've got new heater fittings that I need to get in and I'm thinking its a good time to get the hydro assist going if I didnt kill the pump. 20160514_171132.jpg 20160514_190434.jpg 20160514_201526.jpg 20160515_163942.jpg 20160514_171428.jpg

Disney is fun to wheel. I need to go there sometime when's it's not a big event weekend.

Luckily the BMR has fallen off in popularity a little bit compared to what it used to be. It hasn't been as packed the last two years as it was the two before those that I had went.

It did seem a little better last year. Hopefully this year is even better.

Does anyone have experience tapping one of these boxes for hydro assist? I bought a ram a few years ago and need to get it on. I blew a seal out of the box today and I figure thats as good of an excuse as any to get the ram on.

Just been driving and working on this thing for the most part. Had a few bearings fail after the mud last year. Got it tuned, put a walbro pump in the stock basket. Bought an 8k smittybilt and a barnes winch cradle and had a welder buddy weld everything up for me. Got to use it today on a weird off camber climb to keep it straight, worked good. Need another battery and a bigger alternator for the longer pulls. Took it out today and blew a seal in the steering box. Did well until that point. First major failure in a few years.

No to but in your thread....to help you out i have a west texas offroad tapped redhead steering box i'm looking to get rid of if your interested that i pulled off of my 2500hd. I bought the new xd psc box and its no different or any better, a good pump and cylinder are the key. I even have their 1.5x8 ram also.

I had seen a reply of yours on thread on pirate I was reading and was going to message you about yours. What would you have to have for the box? I have an AGR ram. I planned to see if the stock pump would handle it and upgrade if it wouldnt. Any pictures of your setup?

I ran a stock pump on mine with the west texas setup and the new psc setup. It turns 37s pretty well but i'm not sure how well it would do with bigger tires and a bigger ram. I can get you pics tho in the daylight, i don't have any current ones. I do have an extra tab set from psc also that welds on the tie rod. If you run it on the road i would build a clamp on tie rod mount so you can spin the tie rod if needed, I was kind of bumbed that the psc setup is no different than the west texas. Both setups you can turn the tires with one finger with ease, with a bigger pump its prob better too. I might do that at a later date. Pm me if you want, ill shoot you a price on it.

I sent you a pm. I think. It said something about a conversation, so I assume that's the same thing.

Got the box from Rob. Great dude, box looked too nice to put on my leaky dirty beater. Might have to work on the axle mount a bit but the steering is up and running. I'll have to find some fittings for the ram before I take it out, mine had some T fittings for some reason. I capped them for now.

Brakes work good, just need to find a reservoir or do the cheap cut off radiator hose deal.

I'm glad it worked out for you, hydro assist makes a huge differance. Just check the fluid for foaming or excessive heat from time to time. You may need a cooler or a bigger resi if you wheel for long periods of time in the heat.

I tried drilling and tapping the box and missed the one hole by a an 1/8. It split the o-ring grooves in there and ruined the box. I just tapped the top and front caps and ran with it. Easier to replace should something happen and can be switched from box to box quickly.
