2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
It should be easy minus the turbo removal.

I did take it on a short test drive around the block, and WOW what a difference just from the one side being done. I didn't think I would notice that big of a change from half of the injectors being replaced. I know they were 167k miles old, but still. It feels like more than a new truck. I cannot wait to wrap up the other side.

Boy. Maybe I'll hafta do mine one of these days instead of just helping other people have nice rigs. :dunno:

Not saying I don't help people anymore, but I have definitely put my own stuff as a higher priority then they use to be.
Outstanding. What a great payoff.

David
One of the best payoffs I've had in a while.

Didn't get crazy far today. Everything is off on the turbo minus the manifold flange. After that is a heat shield, then the injectors will be exposed for removal. I have the 4 bolts soaking with PB blaster right now, and Mother Nature decided to wee on me while I was outside. So everything is on hold for the rest of the day.

Should I have that much oil siting on the front side of the turbo? The oil blow by was also soaked with oil. Any issues there?

Then had a good laugh when this happy little guy showed up.

Nice smiley face. Not sure how much oil in the blow by is a problem, but that oil-caked intake manifold is more oily than any of the 4 or 5 6.2/6.5 trucks that I have worked on. I have read that a failed CDR valve will cause oil to come out with the blow by, and obviously worn-out motors blow by more than new ones. But I haven't any way of quantifying how much oil is too much. :dunno:

I made my own brackets back in the day and used 56" up front stock form for 4-5inch lift .

no engine / tranny weight but here is few pics with 38x12.50x16.5 tires.

front bracket was 2x2 or 2.5x2.5 square tube bolted to bottom of rail ends with tabs down off that .

rear was ord 4" flip kit and 3" block on stock 5 leaf 64" rears .

also had a 2" body lift for the 2wd cab low floor .

Man I love those wheels!

Got the injectors finished up last night at about 9:30pm. Biggest myths to debunk: Yes, pull the turbo and inner fender. Made the rest very simple. I could imagine a lot of cussing and frustration from trying to squeeze hands in places they shouldn't go.

As for he truck....:yikes::D:saweet::woot: :burnout:

This truck made a 180* turn around from how it was previously. The amount of effort to drive this down the road is down to maybe 15% of the throttle, as before it took about 50% throttle just to stay at cruising speeds.

I also accidentally roasted the tires leaving a stop sign, I was literally not prepared for that much of a change.

The truck sounds better. The truck runs smoother. The turbo sounds more crisp, and you can hear it spool now. Best upgrade yet, by far. This was worth the $400. I'd actually pay $800 to get these same results. Massive improvement overall.

I will report back next week with the new mpg totals......if I can keep my foot out of itflagwaver

Cool beans. You're putting ideas in my head. Again.

Isn't that what this site is for?

Probably. But I leave this thought for ya...I built Big Blue in 2 summers of part-time wrenching, with no internet resources (at all). And then, after that, I discovered CK5. In the 5 years since finishing that build, I have accomplished very little on either of the other trucks. Piling on ideas doesn't help get things completed, it just slows down the process. As @Babaganoosh and @wetoolowdingbangow found out with their rigs. Changing yer mind is like making negative progress.

So the endless quantity of ideas floating around here aren't necessarily helpful to any one build, and adding injectors to my list is just one more thing that keeps me from ever getting either of them done. :deal:

Especially with 3 matching engines...do I replace all 24 at once? That's a pretty penny, one that I don't have at this moment. :dunno:
