2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
If you really need to a machine/welding shop can weld up your existing hole and drill a new one to match what you need if thats your last option but I bet you can come up with something that will work.

Hard to explain but I can show you.

It's just sitting down and lifting the tire with your legs.

Makes it pretty easy really
That's a similar method to how truck shops get big tires onto the truck, two three foot long cheater bars and a little leverage make easy work of big tires.

I'm mostly concerned with getting the tire up and down from a mounting point (whether an internal carrier or a swingout or whatever). Getting the tire 2' in the air is the issue. We both like the carriers that lower down to the ground for easier lifting. That idea has some promise.

I just got a reamer from ruffstuff.

and did a steering arm for a project I am working on . ( NOTE : use a mill / drill press low speed ! don't try it by hand wont work right . almost screwed mine up past repair point ! ! ! )

thankfully it was just a bigger hole size and same 1.5" per foot tapper.

looking at your ends and layout I would tend to just order a few parts from one of our vendors and make something correct from the start .

with adjuster sleaves the drag link looks like it will be maxed out already before adjustments . . . no inword movment .

I have played with a few beefy steering kits from ord / ruffstuff and WOW nice feel and strong as he!! .
I appreciate the info, but I am trying to use as many factory parts as possible. I don't want to get in a situation where I need parts ASAP, and have to wait 3-4 days to order something from Ruff Stuff or ORD. I want to be able to walk into a parts store and leave with what I need.

What is that pitman arm taper set up for? A one ton tie rod end? Are the ford drag links metric thread for the adjuster sleeve?

Yes, 1 ton taper. I don't know yet what the specs are on the Ferd stuff. I haven't had a chance to research it.

And also walk out of the parts store pissed off cause the pimple-faced kid has no clue what your talking about....and you probably got the wrong part anyways and will have to go back and talk to a different pimple-faced parts store manager to get another wrong part......:D

Sorry, I couldn't help myself and all of us were thinking it, haha

Yeah, that helps, but I've still had issues with part numbers not matching the stores part numbers.....but that could be because every d-bag in CO is high on legalized weed.....this state embarrasses me now

Got the adjuster sleeves tonight. Tierod is on and done. Set my own toe. Rear of tire is 1/4" wider than front. Also fixed an annoying oil leak. Oil drain tube for the turbo was leaking. Replaced the basket, and no more leak. Spring plates get here Thursday, then it's on to the brakes.

Wife is leaving for a 3 day trip tomorrow, so not a lot of down time while chasing the nuggets.
