I liked my 8.1 truck a lot, but I really can't bring myself to pull the diesel out of this for gas. I plan on having this truck 'til I die, and minus the front axle, I want it to be a good looking mostly stock truck. I know it's not the cheap route to keep the diesel, and I absolutely love the 8.1 engines, but I just can't.Took the words right out of my mouth. For the money talked about above for a brand new replacement, you could get a tilden motorsports 8.1 package (for cheaper). The thing would drop right into your truck and the tranny would bolt right up to it...but I know you already had an 8.1 truck before didn't you?![]()

wait, no I'm not![]()
And that there is the only other diesel option I would do. At least try to keep it GM.Yeah but $7k for a 6.5? That seems steep anyway you slice it. I can’t inagine a duramax swap running that much total.
I know. Lol
But that is one thing I promised to myself and this truck, it has to stay diesel. Too many people are killing them and replacing with gas or a Cummins.

I do want one of those babymax's. I like them, just not as a tow vehicle power plant. I want to put one in more of a daily K5 or something.Oops, didn't see this. Carry on, ChevyMan.
If you wait long enough you'll be able to use the new BabyMax engine.![]()

That was a bad deal, some day when I have enough time I'll tell you about it.Did you ever "buy" that 6.5TD K5?
my swap cost me a grand total of $5654 and that was doing most of it myself!! So the ls swap can be don’t cheaply but not unless you have most of it yourself or you start with a perfect candidate wrecked truck. When you really add it all up a brand new p400 isn't really a bad deal. It pretty much eliminated all the issues with the 6.5. Cooling still has to be paid close attention too.
I've gotten price totals from several guys who actually kept track of their Cummins swaps. It's a fair amount to do it how I want to do it. P400 with a decent turbo is a pretty solid deal. 250 HP and right at 500 lb ft. Of course you'll be more money than that once you get a new injection pump injectors etc.
But I'm with Greg I'd love to just have a P400 not sure why a Cummins makes more sense. Honestly for me an 8.1 makes the most sense. But I rarely make sense.
