2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
This thing sitting loosely on top of the axle just seems terrifying to me. Is there anything keeping the axle in place aside from the ratchet strap?

At least you are making progress elsewhere. Will your brake hoses bolt up to the ford calipers?
I have new brake hoses for it.

Well, there is more than just a ratchet strap. But why are you so worried about it?

Probably because I came close to dropping an NV4500 into my teeth last week. :doah: No beano, man. I keep thinking that the truck is sitting loosely on the axle tube with no u-bolts to keep it from simply rolling away and dropping the truck onto the ground.

I'm probably missing something, but it's still bugging me several days after you first shared your truck-supporting methods.

Truck is in gear with the parking brake set. It rolls no where. I also put jack stands under it when I work on it.

Your life, your problems. But trusting a parking brake to keep a truck suspended in the air sounds like something that a younger, stupider Ethan would have done. Scratch that, it sounds like something that young & stupid Ethan actually did. :doah:

Jack stands are your friend.

I already have a fresh reman'd trans, and I am rebuilding a transfer case. I have honestly gone back and forth with the AT/MT battle in my head. But the deciding factor is that my wife can't drive manuals very well. She's tried, just not enough practice. I need for her to be able to confidently drive this if need be. She can drive this truck with a trailer without any issues. And I want to keep it that way.

Yes sir. And a Borg Werner 4401? I think.

Edit: It's a BW 4470.

RE EDIT: It is a 4401. The 4470 was used for the 3500HD's

I'm curious to see what the 4401 looks like (compared to my 4470). Please post pictures when you tear into it, if you don't mind.

Was that case very expensive to pick up?

I'm just wondering, since you were taking a 2wd truck to start and converting to 4wd, why didn't you get a GM d60 and pick up a gm tcase and have a passenger drop? Did you happen to find a good deal on the ford d60? Cause I know around here guys want a lot of money for the "good years" ford d60's, to the point you could just find a gm d60 for probably cheaper. I could understand if the truck was already 4wd to get the ford 60 as most everyone does so you don't have to mess with the tcase at all, but in this case I guess I'm just curious what made you still go with all ford 4wd parts for the conversion?
