2000 GMT400 CREW CAB SFA SWAP-The Warden: Fuel leak fixed and awaiting surgery…

The ultimate goal for this truck is tow duty/family camping trips/small offroad adventures.
While it's good to test to be sure that your truck will start at some stupid cold temp. If you ever really need it to. Not plugging it just to make a video is beyond stupid.

I'm definitely in the camp of plugging it in so it starts easier and gives me heat sooner.

Agreed. I do need to test it, but it will be plugged in every night from now on. I have a timer for it to turn on a couple hours in advance. No need to add stress and wear just for a video. But I’d like to know I’m covered if needed.

I think testing is good. You could blow a fuse, power goes out, cord has problems, timer doesn't work, block heater fails.

So testing to see if you can start it with it not being plugged in I think is a good idea

My block heater cord failed on the morning of a snow wheeling trip. :doah:

It was 16*F, and at that point I wasn't sure how well it would start without heat. I wound up being fine. But my first thought was that I'd miss out on the trip because the stupid truck wouldn't start.

Always interesting to drive by the truck yards on mornings like this and smell the super rich diesel smell from all the cold rigs starting.

Well, I had to drive my Harley truck today. A block heater is a must when it's this cold. I still think there are improvements to make in order to be able to rely on the super cold starting. But I almost always have a backup vehicle. Just may not be the one I want. Tonight I figure out my block heater issue.

That's for my cousin Robbie. He died when he was 24. Was driving recklessly and killed himself on his crotch rocket August of 2006. He t-boned a ranger at a stop light doing about 90mph. It flipped the ranger on to it's roof. I was with him about 10min before it happened. My last memory of him was him doing a burnout on the same bike as he left where my truck had died in a parking lot. He had stopped to help me get it started, and was then on his way. Crazy. You never know when the last time you'll see some one is going to be.
