Ok, got a late start today but got a bit done...
Finished hub with the OD turned to size:
Hub installed with rotor. I don't have the shorter bolts for the hub yet so I used a few of the stockers with a 1" spacer made from 3/4" EMT... Works for now.
Stock HMMWV rim with plenty of clearance:
Next was project was to build the final links for the front. As you saw in an earlier post I acquired some nice 2.5" 9/16" wall DOM for my lowers and 2" 1/4" wall DOM for the uppers. Since the lowers were 9/16" wall the ID became 1.375" which needed to be opened to 1.5" to clear the tube adapters. So I bored a 1.5" hole into the end of the links about 1.5" deep, finally got to use my steady rest:
Now the tube adapters fit and you can definately see how thick these links are... Next up was to taper the ends to make them look a little nicer:
Tapered and welded:
Installed:
Never thought I would think 1-1/4" heims are small but after these links, I'm thinking so. Don't think they will bend? In person it really is comical how big the links are. Got all the links finished and all the 8 lug hubs finished today.
Also got one coilover assembled and installed:
I got new shocks but re-used the coils and hardware. I cannot find one of the coil carriers so I didn't get the pass. shock in tonight but I'll find it in the daylight tomorrow and get it on and get the thing sittings on it's tires.
I think I need some lower rate coils now so I'll have to do some math tomorrow once it's sitting on it's own weight and see what I need to do.
