Glad I'm not the only one. :doah:

The 4Runner was enough of a PITA to get into that if I needed to move it around camp I would put in low-low-first, fire it, and walk beside it. The line lock was left on a few too many times and my front springs were pretty badly s-shaped when I sold it because of that. :doah:

Wait till you struggle most of a day to get the thing to move then realize that the front line lock has been on since camp 12 miles and one tough trail ago:doah:.

I think that's why my last set of front shafts egged the ears so quick.:rolleyes:

I get around this issue now by not using the line lock except in a winch pull or situation that would need it. I originally used it all of the time but after several times leaving the front, rear or both locked I just quit using them and park where the buggy doesn't roll on it's own and then put it in park.

That method is so easy even Jack can remember.:D
 
Why not wire in a big red idiot light so when the line lock is on the light is on?

x2 on that waht i was thinking use a led so it wont run the battery dead if thats a concern
 
Previous build was thrown together in a month. Might just do so on this one. I'm going to have a combination tach/idiot light (Summit G2946) and I'm looking into ways to wire a whole bunch of stuff to another light. Oil pressure, coolant temp, line locks, etc.
 
check out the switch panel and gauges in my buggy build thread,

the panel with the 6 fuses, switches and idiot lights and a start button was 80.00:D
 
Motor is "hung" I guess. The front mounts are pretty goofy since at full stuff the driveshaft will just clear the engine block itself...there's zero room for anything traditional. It would be a lot easier except that I have rear steer too. Make the tubes too wide and you get into the tires, too narrow and you're in the driveshaft. Hopefully there will be opportunities to brace them better once the rest of the tube work in the rear starts to take shape.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through mirroring the mount on the other side. Tomorrow I'll be working on mounting the winch, radiator, and cooler.

It's a good thing that I haven't gotten my chunks to you to get machined, that way when I grab reverse it'll actually be a forward gear. :haha:

Spent the entire friggin' day on a couple of bars. Motor is totally mounted. I'm out of tubing. Steel truck is coming tomorrow. Have to mount the rear winch and cooler, and then figure out something for the radiator. I currently have a single pass AFCO, but because of how the ports are arranged on LS motors, I pretty much need a double pass. I was thinking of ordering the same size AFCO I have now, except in double pass, that way I could use my current rad. for mockup. Any suggestions?
 
Got the winch mounted today and started on the radiator bars. Should be able to finish the radiator mounts tomorrow. I've been holding off on doing anything to the passenger compartment because seats and the Black Box need to show up first. The BB case should be here tomorrow, and I have no idea on the seats. I would assume next week sometime.

Currently on the rear end I'm thinking 2 oval brake lights and oval reverse lights mounted like \\ // on the center panel...and maybe a SuperTrapp sticking out each side where the triangularish hole in the tube work is. That's awefully close to the cooler though...don't know if the exhaust would kill the plastic on the bottom of the cooler. Either way I'll be running the pipes out there, it's just too perfect of a location to not do it.

Check the ammo boxes on my truck, there may be some lights in one of them or they are in my trunk:haha: You can use them for mock up if you'd like:D

Might want to think aboot radiator protection, tree branches and all.

It's looking real good so far:waytogo:
 
Thanks man. I've gotta see how deep an LED light sits so I don't end up with them rattling against the cooler.

You think a couple tubes would be enough for radiator protection or (Kert is going to hate this) have expanded steel or something over them? Remember there will be puller fans up top too.
 
You guys need to keep hitting mikey up for photos of the build. Some steps this weekend bumped the tube work up into the uber beefy realm. Really looking good and evolving well!!
 
Bug Stomper, he grabbed one or two with his fancy pants phone this weeked. :haha:

Second b-pillar and braces are tacked in. Cut down the mid-plate today and started on the x-brace. I'll finish the x-brace tomorrow. I've been advised to hold off on the door bars until the interior is 90% done since it's going to be a royal PITA to work on the interior with them on there.

Waiting on seats, then they, the transmission, and t-case will get mounted and the front end construction will begin.
