our local track at 7-13-14
placed 3rd in the 38" class.
then missed my last 2 classes due to starting issues. found out after it destroyed the starter, again (stock vortec mini) because the engine has been kicking back for some reason and it broke the corner of the block on the outer starter bolt hole. we put on a MSD starter retard box and that wasn't helping much, and it went bad and caused the truck to stall and miss at low rpm. it was chewing off starter gears and flex plates. finally looked at the bolt after this race and could see a hairline crack. so it would let the starter be misaligned enough to cause the flexplate/ starter to work apart then all hell would break loose.
so this past week i put a brand new flex plate and a high torque powermaster starter in. what a difference. that is when we found out the msd box was going bad, after less then 2 months. so $400 later and it runs. the powermaster starter has enough bolt holes in it to be able to be used for the straight pattern or the offset pattern. i was able to use 3 bolts to hold this starter in. the outside hole was still able to be used and tightened but it would let it kick. with the 2 inner bolts it should never more. i did not want to have to remove the engine to fix this mid season. when i pull it this fall for a freshening, i will have the block fixed.
we had a race on that thursday. a semi local fair.
modified class, 1st place
2 more vids of the same class:
open class, 3rd place. you can see the suspension smooth out the bumps.
i haven't got the drag shocks yet. that is the next step. the starter issues killed the progress a little.
