alright, i need some help smoothing the ride out, as you can see most of the pits we run now are ROUGH. i know there's only so much i can do with leafs all around. i have thought about 4 linking, but there's no time in the middle of the season.

i'm using 6" leafs in the front and stock packs in the rear with shackle flip and longer rear shackles. i just have some cheap front and rear lift shocks on both ends. might be rancho's. are better shocks going to help at all?

thought about going to 52's on the front which would also help with getting some droop and letting the front rise on acceleration. also thought about just moving the front rear shackle hanger forward and still using the stock length lift spring. all of that will affect my driveshaft angle and give me more spring wrap.

on the rear i have the parts to change to sliders and a traction bar, but need new leaf packs again from them being twisted from axle wrap and bouncing.

Are you running bumpstops at all now? Im on 52/64s and never ran bumps stops. Now I have a set of just factory gm bumpstops with about a inch up all the way around. Before I was getting tossed all over the place, much better now. Also look into timberens.

no bumpstops. i have a set of put together 52" packs that i used on my woods truck. they were used for going slow. not this type of stuff.

I would add some bumpstops or some timbrens and see how it feels before I go changing springs, wheelbase, ect. I know the FAST guys up here run them with No up treavel, they say it keeps the tires digging. Seems to work.

yep and these guys get ALOT of air, I don't see how their backs take it but a good set of timbrens can absorb a lot of bumps.I know with crawling my truck was SO much easier on my whole body after adding bumpstops

decided to start some changes this week.

liquid iron sliders for the rear.

on the front i gave it the standard move the rear hanger forward.

we have a big race in columbus ohio this weekend so next week i'll try and get some drag shocks ordered up and start on the traction bar.

I don't think the drag shocks will perform. If the pits are rough you just need a good shock overall. It does improve ride. Riding in two trucks with the exact same lift and different shocks the difference was pretty amazing.

i am hoping with the added droop on the front axle, it will pull some weight off of the axle to help carry the front and let it get on top instead of plowing thru. we travel all over and all the pits are different.

the drag shocks are roughly $50 each so i won't be out much if they don't work like i plan. i also need a higher stall convertor, once i get that it will hit the tires harder and get more launch and transfer the weight, which is what i am going for.

i gotta try something. it's so rough. if it doesn't work, i may be 4 linking it over winter.

Arrrgggggg!!!!!!

Was finishing it up tonight, putting some degree shims in for shaft clearance. Had to take the shocks of for more clearance and realized the driver side was completely blown out and the pass. Side wasn't far behind.

Those sliders were $150
They are beefy though. I had to clearance the front so the spring doesn't bottom out..

went back out to columbus ohio on 6-29 . it was a big payout race in the 35" class, i placed 4th , paid to 3rd place. hauled out 2 trucks and 16 extra tires.

blew another tire on the trailer on the way home. we were way over loaded, then we added mud to 2 trucks. had a small fire from after the tire blew and the front axle rubbing on the trailer deck on the side of the highway. ended up having another truck and trailer come get us at 2.5 hours away from home. didn't get home till 6am the next day (monday) . then went to work all day.

the pit was kinda smooth so i didn't get to test my suspension changes.

our local track at 7-13-14

placed 3rd in the 38" class.

then missed my last 2 classes due to starting issues. found out after it destroyed the starter, again (stock vortec mini) because the engine has been kicking back for some reason and it broke the corner of the block on the outer starter bolt hole. we put on a MSD starter retard box and that wasn't helping much, and it went bad and caused the truck to stall and miss at low rpm. it was chewing off starter gears and flex plates. finally looked at the bolt after this race and could see a hairline crack. so it would let the starter be misaligned enough to cause the flexplate/ starter to work apart then all hell would break loose.

so this past week i put a brand new flex plate and a high torque powermaster starter in. what a difference. that is when we found out the msd box was going bad, after less then 2 months. so $400 later and it runs. the powermaster starter has enough bolt holes in it to be able to be used for the straight pattern or the offset pattern. i was able to use 3 bolts to hold this starter in. the outside hole was still able to be used and tightened but it would let it kick. with the 2 inner bolts it should never more. i did not want to have to remove the engine to fix this mid season. when i pull it this fall for a freshening, i will have the block fixed.

we had a race on that thursday. a semi local fair.

modified class, 1st place

2 more vids of the same class:

open class, 3rd place. you can see the suspension smooth out the bumps.

i haven't got the drag shocks yet. that is the next step. the starter issues killed the progress a little.
