2wd 02' burb to 4wd?

I spent the day finishing the rear bumper frame ties. I think it should be strong enough to pull a trailer or maybe even a tree. I welded heavy hex nuts on a 1/4 plate and put it on the back side of the center crossmember for extra strength.

Are we sure that's a 10.25"? Wouldn't a Super Duty have gotten a 10.5"?

I thought when rhe SD's came out they beefed them up a little...?

Is the sterling known to have any major flaws? I'm still thinking of using it because it's a full floater. Any thoughts?

By the time you convert it to standard pattern you could have just done the 14 bolt full floater with disks. The 14 bolt is stronger thant the stearling due to its 3rd pinon bearing and larger ring gear.

Get a 00 up 14ff with factory disks and drum-in-hat parking brakes.

Right. If you get a pre 2000 and covert to discs you will lose your e brake unless you do cadillac calipers or a dual caliper hydrolic setup. 2000 and up should pretty much swap right into your truck and have e brake inside the rotor.

copy on the cady brakes. What years can I pull from?

btw - i have an 01 with a factory 14blt. it's a sf though. Did they offer both?

76-78 Eldorado. Yes they did offer both. I could be wrong, but i think the burbs with the 6.0's gut the SFs and the burbs with 8.1's got the FF. I know that the 2500hd's and up got the FF until they switched to the AAM 14 bolt.

all the hassle and storys i have read just do the newer 14ff disk setup in the end be a cleaner setup . and go price the 76-78 caddy calipers

no problem - finding the calipers is the hard part for me. I have few local bone yards and its just hit or miss. about 45 would be my expectations if you could find'em.

Thinking back a bit - I did the brake swap for my 12blt on my chevelle. Works great. Wouldn't do this for a 3/4 ton truck though. The rotors were decently sized but the calipers are too small imop for a real heavy set-up

I have found small town junk yards can be a real treasure trove. Like my hometown of Ephrata, one of the yards there had 5 or so 14bff laying about getting a great tan in the Sun Basin heat... along with many 8-lug D44's and D60's from GM stock, as well as Ford and Dodge stock.

So find a 00+ 14FF from a Chevy 2500HD or SRW 3500 and you're good to go. Beefy axle, disc brakes, and good built in parking brake.

Not to mention same generation truck as his Burb.
