2wd to 4wd conversion, follow along as I do it

7/16" is the factory size on our older rigs. At some point it was switched to 1/2" from the factory.

The frame rail itself is slightly wider at the frame eye hanger location in my experience. No shackle swing to clear. I don't believe it is wider everywhere but never had the need to verify that.

My crew cab was converted from 2wd to 4wd and I had to clearance the frame for this purpose.

Oh I just need to clearance the frame some

For some reason when I kept reading the frame is wider I was thinking the distance between the frame rails, this makes it a lot easier

I think I'm going to order from you in a bit

It has a vin and title

It was a daily driver about a year ago

I don't think I'll get a tag and insurance for awhile though

is it for a 2wd though....obviously its not gonna be any more so when you hand them a registration its gonna say 2wd suburban when your is 4wd

JDNobodi-yes it is...sc is the only state i know of (right now) where you dont have to worry with that

I don't think it is a big deal in the Republic of California. If it is, a referee would probably sign off on it. They mostly worry about engine modifications here.

Edit- well the coppers will get you for too high and too low suspensions, but you are safe with a 4" lift kit. Mud flaps are another thing the law looks for.
If they do have a problem with the 4wd conversion, you got to have receipts for all the 4wd parts.

We don't have inspections

We have insurance and a tag on one of our race car that has no head lights and has full race slicks

If we do have inspections I'll just take the front drive shaft out and tell them it's 2wd :D

I just ordered everything I need, for his prices it's not even worthwhile to make it myself

I'll make everything else, engine cross member, front spring hanger mount

I think I'm going to inboard the rear springs

I'm going to have 4 of these cut out of 1/4"

To hold the spring hanger I bought

I think It will lower it about an 1"-1.5"

And a 1" diameter tube is going to connect the two. Thats why I put the hole

I hope they work

I'll be out of town till Friday

does kert make an inboard spring kit? that thing looks pretty good and looks stronger than what came from the factory. couldn't you use kerts B52 kit to do the 2x4 to 4x4 swap? oh and btw those shocks look pretty hefty

I could use the b52 but I don't feel like getting rid of the rivets, plus it saves me money, gives me some extra lift, and is something that no one else has

And no I don't think he sells the kit, I would be making it all on my own

did he make that kit in the pic? i noticed his sticker on the slider and noticed some of his other products. i just thought the B52 kit would be easier and give you less problems in the long run although your right about picking up lift.

I'm going to once the parts come and I mock it up with the cardboard brackets I cut out

Wanna see the cardboard?

In the mean time I keep changing the brackets lol, Getting better after every change
