So right now I've got a completely stock/original 84 K10. It has 31x10.5" MTs, the original 305, SM465, and 3.08 gearing.
I'm tossing around the idea of a 2" lift and changing the tires to 33x12.5s. I know I can get a 4" lift for the same price, but I don't want to go that tall and don't think it would fit in my garage anyway. (i've got about 8.5" clearance above the cab right now).
My question is, would this change make the truck struggle? Its not an impressive performer as it is, (and I don't expect it to be) but I want it to at least be able to keep up with traffic for the most part. Right now it runs about 2500 rpm at 70mph. I found plenty of feedback that this combo would be miserable with a 700r4, but I haven't found much relevant info for the SM465. I am mostly concerned about 4th gear power, the truck seems to do just fine at low speeds with the granny gear.
This truck is used as a nice driver/cruiser and it occasionally tows and sees light off-roading at the sand dunes.
