The arm is not that hard. Search it up lots of good info on it. It's not impossible, and you have to start learning sometime. The way I look at things is, if a "professional" can do it, why can't I? If I need the tool, I'll buy it. It saves me in the long run. And the second ( third, fourth, etc ) I do it, it becomes much easier.

ok gmc4cw...before you go off being a jackass about it I did try for quite some time this morning...gave it a panther piss and WD40 bath and hit the crap out of that thing and it didn't budge.
There is a fine line between learning how to do something and being stupid about it when a "professional" could get it done quickly with the right tools and get me closer to being finished.

But that's just my $0.02 on the matter.


Ok I just got back from the shop and he said he could do it in an hour (pull both of the arms and put the raised arm on the new axle).
So it'll be about $70 but that's the best $70 I've spent on this entire project ;)

so you're paying him $70 to spray it with panther piss (whatever the fock that is) and hit it with a BFH. that's great, after all, you dont have those kind of tools, because you're not a professional. :rolleyes:

how long did you try 30min.? its taken some a few days

ding ding ding! Exactly...I don't have or want to spend a few days on it...oh and beater I tried the panther piss and bfh...it didn't work. So I don't know what he'll do and quite frankly I don't care at this point...I just need to get this done for tomorrow...

you just spent $70 to have someone spray the arms with WD-40 and hit them with a hammer. plus you are wasting gas driving back and forth, wearing your tires, brakes, shocks, springs, trans, engine, axle bearings.

sissy. go hit it with your purse you girl.
 
The only thing he might do that you didn't do is heat it up with torch and then bang on it... There are no "right tools" for this job...:rolleyes: and it only took me about an hour to get mine off and it had never been off before. Are you calling PB Blaster panther piss?

Kroil is the **** that what the shipyard uses. I personally like "wintergreen" it is what we used to use on the subs but it is poisonous (sp?) smells like life savers but will **** up your intestines if you ingest any (I dont want to talk aboot it:doah:).

Yes there is a right tool for this job! It's called Cone Washer Pliers and they are made by OTC. http://www.otctools.com/products/detail.php?id=1791
Only a Neanderthal would beat on a steering arm with a hammer. They are also used on Toyota axles.................

You bastard... lol. Well I bet they don't have one! :D I'm definately getting one... add it to the other tools that only have one job and that I'll only use once every 10 years. I'll make a list of them when I get home.

"Specially designed pliers gives you the leverage needed to expand the cone and remove it from the stud for axle removal."

It's hard to EXPAND the cone when it's down in the tapered part of the steering arm. Those pliers are useless until you get the cone washer up out of the steering arm, and by then you've got the arm off anyways. They're a waste of money IMO.

That's ok, I've been called worse things than a "Neanderthal". :p:

You ever tried useing them? I have and they work quite well. Sure penetrating oil should be used when there is rust, but they work.
 
I have a custom pair of padded gloves to minimize the scraping of my knuckles as I drag them along the ground.
