3/4 Ton Swap is DONE: **d-shaft question**

I'm confused...

What are you talking about with conversion fitting? Are you running compression fittings on your brake lines? I hope to god you aren't...

Also if you have stainless brake lines, why don't they just bolt up to the hard line?

Same here not sure what you are talking about. Got any pics so we can redirect your efforts? Sounds to me like the guy you bought this from had no ****in clue what he was doing.

No kidding...

I'm at school but later on I'll take some pics and post it up...basically what it is is a block that has a female hole threaded and tapped for the SS brake line to thread into...then a bolt bolts it to the hole in the brakes that would normally have the brakeline threaded into it...the bolt that holds the block on (and runs down the center of the block) has a hole drilled down the center of it so the fluid can flow through it into the caliper.

I brought it with me to school and when I'm at work I'll head over to Central Supply (big fitting supply place) and see if they have a fitting that I could thread onto my SS brake lines to convert it over to the size that the bolt is (the size of the hole in the caliper) that way I can just thread it directly into the caliper.

Sounds to me like you need to pony up and buy a proper set of front brake lines vice that cobbled together ****.

yup, what he said.

again, with brakes, its someone else's safety you're focking with, and there's no room to cobble stuff together. :deal:

I have these brake lines on my truck, I highly recomend them. Also they directly bolt in!

Avery just get some pics up so everyone can help. So you won't kill anyone, and Before Jeremy comes over and stabs you in the face with a soldering iron... he'll do it.

those blocks! those are what I have...

but I figured out what it was...my boss from the machine shop gave me a ride home today and he climbs under there...."Avery! *sigh* I can eye ball a .030" curve around this hole from the grinder...get under here with a metal file and it'll be just fine"...rofl...so that's what I'm going to do tomorrow...

Then I don't understand where you are having problems... I can get a picture of how my lines are setup tomorrow in teh day light.

Everything is done and I started to hook up the brake lines when I realized they weren't the same size....then it hit me...the old brake lines had a converter box thingy that bolted on...so I got that and when I went to bolt it on the new brakes it didn't fit flush up against it because there was some molding on the back of the brake...so after school before I got to grinding the calipers to get the 15's to fit I ground those off....then I hooked it all up and put some sealant on it...
Went to bleed the brakes and it was gushing from the stupid conversion blocks for the brake lines...I spent a while messing with them and we couldn't ever get them to stop leaking so I said screw it...I took the block and I'm going to go get a conversion so I can thread the stainless steel brake lines directly in...so this weekend it'll be done.

Also sealant on brakes? no sealant is going to hold to the pressure of a brake line.

Look at the picture again, there are supposed to be 2 bass washers on your brake lines, 1 on each side of the "block".

And lastly, what did you grind off to make the "blocks" fit? I hope you didn't just screw up your calipers.

yeah there are two washers...I ground off the little lip that was around the hole in the calipers...not a big deal...I imagine it was there to protect the factory lines where they screwed into it.
I'm going to file it flat tomorrow morning...my boss said that they'll seal perfectly fine w/o any sealer or anything if I just get them flat.

Why the hell did you need to grind that area anyways....

Sealant? WOW

shesh do you guys not read? THERE WAS A PART MOLDED AROUND THE OPENING THAT ONLY THE BRAKE LINE COULD FIT IN...THE BLOCKS COULDN'T FIT W/O GRINDING IT OFF....
;)

Are you sure the blocks were orientated the correnct way? You shouldn't have to grind anything to put the brake lines in.

On mine, there were tabs that were cast into the caliper and it holds the block inplace so the line coming out of the block is orientated the correct way, and it prevents them from spinning when you tighten them down.

Sorry Avery I missed something in this huge thread full of your idiocy:eek1: ... Im sorry but if you're putting "sealant" on brake lines you need to have somebody that is more knowledgeable work on your rig so you dont kill somebody when your disaster of a truck falls apart on the road....

Like 305 said you shouldnt have to grind that casting off, its there for a reason....

oh, and your boss is an idiot. :deal:

I'm sorry but that's going too far...he is part of a 3 member team that runs one of the best machine shops in the city and surrounding area...until you nut up, move out and make a career for yourself or can keep the insults targeted at me don't come back.
I don't care if everyone likes me but enough is enough...I can take hits b/c I know guys like you do it to pump themselves up when other guys like me are trying to learn a thing or two but don't you dare bring someone else into this.

Ok...carry on.

disaster of a truck? it's a work in progress...
more than I can say for others
Plus I admit to everything I do and I learn from it...do you realize how many times guys do stuff they found out later was stupid but don't tell anyone...
