Classic city offroad in Athens Ga quoted me something like 850 for Yukon 4.56's front and rear, installed.

removing the carrier is pretty much straightforward, re-installing is a different story............setting the pinion depth is the most critical phase of the surgery and will require your dads tools and assistance.

there is plenty of info on the web about R/P installs, do your homework.

thanks

thanks people yall are great help ...at the moment im gonna go with 33" until i can regear up to 4.56 or go on the hunt for dana 60 and 14 bff but itll be a little while gotta work and save thanks again :D

With my 86 Blazer I am running 31" with 4.10 with overdrive.
I very rarely run in over drive as this puts my engine below it's power range when cruising.
Over 60 mph this combination is acceptable but just barely.
I must state that I have installed a cam and some other parts that does affect the power in the lower rpms.
31"tires X 4.10 @ 60mph is in the 1800 rpm range. Hardly much more than a fast idle.
33" X 3.08 @ 60mph 1358 rpm (in overdrive)
35" X 3.08 @ 60mph 1242 rpm (in overdrive)
Big tires look cool but there is not much "bling" on the market that will get you up a hill or through the mud hole.
Taller tires also affect the wear on the brakes and the steering components.
Don't forget to install a brace at the steering box.

I think you would be happier spending the money on a set of gears right now. Smoke the old tires off while you are gathering the money for a taller set of tires and other parts.

i have an 82 k1500 with 33's and 3 in bod lift they dont ever touch although they did before i put the 2" front shackles on it although i think my front leaves have sagged

edit: the power isint too bad with 3:08's but 3:73's or 4:11's would make a huge diffrence

are the tires you have now old? since ur tight on money, if the tires are in decent shape you could try sellin them on here for somehting, that would help a little, instead of laying them out on the pavement, although that would be more fun.

35's on 8"rims. with the 3" body lift, you shouldn't have to trim fenders much. But it will hurt the tranny, I'de also got to 4.10 gears. Thats the combo on the wifes truck. 35" at's ON 8" RIMS. 4.10's-10 bolts, 1" body 2" SUSPENSION.

35" bfg's will come out to about 33.8" (at least mine were) so id go with them

i got my 10b and 14b geared and detroit in the 14b installed for $375 total and has warentee.

This thread is starting to depress me after all the money I've spent. I thought I was going to right route by getting 3.73s with 33's. The seem fine to me and I do alot of highway but maybe 4.10's would be better?

By the way, my vote's for 33's.

Don't be depressed. You ain't the only one going with 33's and 3.73's.. I know thats what my plan is.

33s unless you are going to change gears.

Yep, 35's w/3:08's would be a real dog.
Pretty good final gear for the highway though... :p:

I've ran 3.73's with 33's for a year or so and it was not that bad. Looking back at least. Now I have 35's with the same 3.73's and my K5 is quite the dog acceleration wise. It's not horrible, but I'm not going to win any drag races with it. Highway RPM went down though with the bigger tires, so that's a positive.

Thing is seeing how much of a dog mine is with 35's and 3.73's I couldn't even imagine what 35's and 3.08's would be like. Yuck...probably won't crawl out from it's own shadow it would suck so bad.

I voted 35's because they just look right on a K5. However, I'd get the gears done before dropping any coin on tires. If you can't afford to get the gears changed and tires, stick with the 33's.

My brother runs 39" military michelin XLs with 4.56. It's not very fast, but it goes wherever he points it. Makes most other stuff look silly offroad. Of course, he's got 1 ton axles and lockers too :D It's a personal preference you gotta do your homework on for your setup. My preference is Big. :D

35's

I would get the 35's just because I'm guessin you might eventually lift it even more than you got it. with that it might look a little wierd with those 33's. i dunno what you got in mind w/ your blazer but ide definitally plan ahead especially w/ how much mud tires are.

35's, definately,,,

i have 33's, liked them when i first got them, but now i seriously want some 35's.

just make sure you plan on changing out those gears pretty soon after getting the larger tires, or as mentioned, you will burn out that trans.

I'm runnin 4.10's now, seems alittle high geared for what i have, so i am hoping 35's will cure the over-revving at highway speeds.

H0lly smokes.... Another post back from the dead. :eek1:

Hee hee I just blew the doors off a H2 in my K5 with 33s and 3.73.s............ I just came out of the hills after hunting all day. Covered with mud, blood and beer :D . Some fool in a shiny clean H2 roared up next to me at a light. Guess he was looking for a race with a truck that can acually go off road.
Ba Ha Ha! No contest! All he could see was my dirty tail gate that said Blazer! He wouldnt even look at me at the next stop light. I reved up the ool 350 dropped a few dirt clods, and left him in my dust. Gotta love K5s :D
33s and 3.73s are a good combo. Just have to build your engine to match

That made my day

With 3.08 R&P ratio, you'll want to go with 33's just to have some power and keep the trans temp to a reasonable level. If you can swing a regear of the diffs, go with 35's and trim the fenders.

3.73s with 33's. get better gas mileage and higher top end
