Tonight, I am working on a map pocket replacement with cup holder. In order to fit my printer, I went with a two piece design that has dowel pins to hold the two halves together until the mounting screws secure it to the OEM map pocket location of the door. I am running the first part overnight tonight and will test fit it on the GMC K2500 in the morning.

The extra holes are so when you reconfigure to the other side, the holes still line up. But you could add extra screws if needed.

Let me figure out if they work first. but the idea is to make the models available for free to anyone that wants to print their own parts.

If you don't have a printer, there are print shops you can order from online.

That is the concept that I started with. But it was too large for my printer.

Interesting, I didn't realize something that thin would still be hollow. Did the 3D printer software do that automatically from your solid model?

I'll be watching this as I got a combo gift for all 3 kids, a BambuLab printer for Christmas. They don't know it yet.

The cup holder looks excellent, I am kind of tall, I wonder if it will be in the way of my left knee. If not I might make one.

Is all of the weight supported by the door skin?

Ah, so two holes line up with the existing map pocket holes and the others can be left empty. It still looks like you're planning to add a lower set of holes.

What are the chances of finding filament really close to the factory trim colors? I know the general approach is to buy vinyl dye, but that stuff does wear off high-use areas (like where you slide your stainless water bottle 80x a day.)

That’s a seriously nice print. What’s the hardware setup?
I saw a previous post where he got a Bambu Lab P1S combo on sale.

Bambu Labs P1S printer on default settings for the test print.

The lower holes are for the dowel pins into factory holes. The factory used push pics in the bottom two holes and screws in the top two.

I so want to 3d print. Everytime I start researching, my head starts hurting. Nice fixture.
The printing side is fairly straight forward when the parts fit on the printer bed full scale. The company that sells the printer includes the slicer software that sets up the G code and controls printing parameters.

The CAD side isn't bad to learn with with free and cheap software options available these days. Solidworks is normally $50/year for the Maker version, I paid $25 on the Black Friday sale. I also have decades of experience with Solidworks and prefer it over other options.

I have been doing mechanical design in CAD for 30 years, so I have some advantage on doing complex geometry right from the start of buying the printer, but I've invested less than $1K in the printer, software, and a years worth of filament thanks to the Black Friday deals at 45% off.

Ya that's the one I keep himhawing over. I don't print enough to justify it but the quality that comes from it is so nice plus being able to print different colors is a big bonus.
