44" tall X 12" Wide XMLs. My build thread.

so how do you get jumped in to this gang?
not to be off subject

How many miles are on your 454?

It's like the sheetmetal gang. You just put it in yer sig if yer primarily interested in tech and building than anything else.

The 454 has "around" 100 on it. The PO said the speedo was broken for years.

Still waiting on smog. If it smogs, I'm tearing into the mods. If not....dunno yet.

NO KIDDING. The tech aound here is dead. Lame. I'm the only one building, and I'm not getting a lot of input.

I'm building too...............well putting back together better maybe.

See in my sig line.....the only part actually in the truck are the diffs and suspension

..........everything else is on the floor beside it :doah:

and my 44" boggers haven't arrived yet :D

................then wandering back on topic

about the 14bolt widths. What about 14FF out of a 1ton van. I think they're mucho wide IIRC. just about good for H1 rims. 0

Heres my 454...........I vote make the 454.
:D

Thanks DEMON

You catch that readymix? :D

with 100? on it you might need to boar it to get the cylinders nice and round again.

Yah. If it has to be totally rebuilt, I might as well do a Cad, I think.

Random cool pic.

Van widths are more easily used for hummer swaps but still not as wide as a dually front. The van rear is exactly 3" wider than your standard 14FF. They are the same width as a SRW front axle:D . A van width will however require a thinner spacer to equal a Dually front:D . All of the internals are the same. The axles are longer on a van. The hubs on a van are the same as a SRW 14FF also so brakes should change right over.

OK, here we go again. I spent a good chunk of time this weekend researching Cads. They rock. BUT, I still may be able to make the 454 work as-is and if I have to rebuild it, I can yank it, rebuild it, and throw it right back in. The Cad would have to be adapted, different oil pan, exhaust, etc etc. The point of this build is to get it done, not necessarily be the most coolest ever.

That brings me to getting the 454 to pass smog. The carb is the wrong one. (and it's not in good shape-warped) It's for a '75 400cid. I'm wondering if I should just spring for a good carb to help pass. I think that makes sense, since I've pretty much decided to go 454.

That or I was thinking about trying the Cad carb on the 454. It's been said that undercarbing can mess things up, and in my understanding, part of the beauty of the Qjet is that, to a degree, it only gives the engine what it asks for.

...?

Round file the carb and ge the edelbrock FI
2nd that . how ever Edelbrock Q-jet is good to. I have one and love it the only beter carb would be a JET performance q-jet

Hm. If I remember right, my bro didn't have much luck with JET. When I order a carb, it'll be from one of the shops that gives you a detailed form to fill out for the setup and use of the vehicle. i.e. Sean Murphy or The Carb Shop.

I bought a stage II Q-Jet from Sean Murphy, great carb, good dude to deal with,,,

there isnt really anything wrong with my carb other than its a carb. Runs kinda rich but not much you can do for that here.

I've run some of the 4 plus trails around here with a quadrajet with little problems the only issues I had were steep DESENTS going up and side hills were never a big issue

Am I losing it?

OK, I was planning on doing this someday anyway, but all the hassle with the crewcab is bugging me, so maybe I'll just do it now.

Thinking about just throwing the Cad 500 and Chevy 1 ton drivetrain in my old J**P. I know, I know, it's a J**P, but it'd be all GM drivetrain. And it would be light, overpowered, and overbuilt. HMmmm.

More work, but I'd be expecting it, and the end result would be more, ah...bad. :waytogo: :dunno:

Good idea but you cant beat the aw factor of a cut crewcab on a trail:D .
