44" tall X 12" Wide XMLs. My build thread.

Right now my front axle is 1.5" fwd with zero rates and the rear is 1.5" back.

In the front I want to try to put 56s short end fwd to move the axle fwd and stretch the wb. Has anyone done this or know if it might be made to work without having to move the steering box?

In the rear I want to move the hanges back to the end of the frame and use 56s short end to the rear to stretch the wheelbase. Can I simply swap places with the gas tank and the 14bolt? Will the tank fit under the floor in front of the axle? I want something between the passengers and the tank, just in case.

Input? Thanks

Im not 100% sure about 56s in the front with a zero rate moving it forward. I am going to do the same thing but with 52s, but im either going to go with reverse highsteer or I may just decide on full hydro. I have to see where im at once the suspension is in.

For the rear, as long as you are moving hangers, why not go with a set of 64"s? I did that and just moved my ORD shackle hangers back. They are almost at the end of the frame now.

Just an idea

Sounds good for the rear...the front is the tricky one it seems. I didn't notice what you did with yer tank.

So far I have left my tank in the stock location. The rear axle has been moved back 5.5"s. Still with the 10-bolt, I dont see the diff hitting the tank. I am also goint to add a zerorate but Im not going to use it to move the axle. That would definitly cause the diff to hit the tank when I go to a 14bff.

I plan on keeping the tank right where it is now because I need all the weight i can get by the rear axle so I dont nose dive the truck when going down steep hills.:eek1: Im actually thinking of mounting a rear mount winch behind the cab and attaching it to the axle truss(when its installed) and just use that to compress the rear suspension when going downhill.

Nose diving/endoing is not fun.

Some guys use little boat trailer winches permanently attached to the frame and the axle with switches in the cab to pull either end of the vehicle down at will.

Dunno why I posted new that thread instead of posting in my build thread.

Pretty well settled on sticking with the K5 now. Time to cage. Have a question for those of you with cages, esp first-gens or those who have gone to full removable tops so that just the windshield is left. It seems like everyone goes just inside the windshield frame - why? wouldn't it be better to put it slightly exo so that in a roll the frame/glass don't get thrashed?

Right now the plan is for the main hoop to be 2x4 rectangular tube so that it resembles a cab on the street and build off that to the front and rear. I hate cluttered looking cages, so I'm going to use slightly bigger tube than the norm to try to get away with less trianglulation. At this point, it's just going to be sliders and cage, eventally may tube and skin it all out.

Anyone got any pix/info on narrowing a pickup cab?
Talk to Kert at DIY, thats where I got the idea. He did one awhile back and he's still got it sitting in his warehouse

ere ya go! Took like 26.625" out of the center or something like that. Nice part is you get a 4 point harness and sunvisors on both sides that work for that pesky corner glare! Actually quite a bit of room in this single seat configuration.

I have some specific ideas for it but a long ways off.

Erkl's truck. When its all done it'll be Erkl's evil twin on steroids truck.

:eek1::bow::haha:

Holy cow! I was thinking just maybe narrow it down 12" or so, to 2 person size. Maybe narrow the cab to match a narrowed core support and the box part of a stepside, then use flared fenders in the front.

I plan on sitting on the trans tunnel. Gas pedal on one side, brake on the other. Maybe the shifter right on top of the tunnel as factory would have it. If I can figure a way to not end up with the steering wheel getting in the way. Plenty of room to the side of the seat for things like cutting brakes and such.

Yea that's it! Man that thing is bada$$. K10A'sBROinSLO, instead of narrowing a pickup cab, you should narrow an entire blazer body, then also narrow the blazer cap. You could have a two seater with the passanger sitting behind you. Or, how about a suburban body:thinking:
