468 BB Chevy - What is this worth?

I was gone yesterday afternoon and happy to see the resultsv just now! Will be easy to get that thing ready to rumble! Curious what else you find inside...

Stay tuned. My borescope should be here on Sunday and my big block engine stand should be here on Monday. If everything works out, I could have it out of the vehicle on Wednesday but definitely by next Sunday afternoon.

Maybe now it's time to get some advice on what to do with it. If the existing crankshaft is high-quality I would have it machined for new bearings. I'm sure the connecting rods are going to be fine which I will keep. I was in need recommendations for new pistons and how far to bore it over. The boring would probably be depended upon the actual size of the existing Pistons. I'm sure a lot of this will depend upon what I find when I turn it over and figure out what's inside. I'm going to go for Reliable with modest power and torque. I do not want to have some sort of exotic fuel system. I am still planning on having a mechanical fuel pump. I am familiar with quadrajets and how they function so I would probably be inclined to go that route. Just not sure about how many CFM I will need. If the existing cast-iron heads will work, I will have them work over by a machinist and completely rebuild with similar accessories. I guess one of the big decisions would be the type and manufacturer for the cam. Again, looking for something mild. I want the engine to idle without losing vacuum or stalling. My wife's Ford Cobra has a beautiful sounding engine at idle and that is probably what I am shooting for.

You know there’s a chance the crank is fine, and possibly everything else to. Take a peak before you get excited
I highly recommend this!
evaluate what you have rather than jumping in with a bunch of possibly not needed new parts.
it might not need anything, or maybe just a ring, bearing and gasket rebuild!
have the parts inspected by your engine guy, including the heads.
Get his opinion on how far to go once you get the heads and pan off. He may want to take the shortblock apart himself.

good luck and keep coming with the pics!

if you can get a bore scope / or scope for your phone . look in a plug hole with the piston down and see if there flat / or dome .

LOTS of GREAT parts on this by the looks . money ahead if you tweek this and be better than the 383 power / trq wise in the end .
Got the borescope today as I was cleaning up. I tried it really quick but had issues with lighting. Here are three pics. Two partially show the valves and one shows a piston top with a partial number. The piston looks wet however the plugs and valves were dry as a bone. Plugs were black however, but NOT wet.

The number on the piston was only partially visible however it ends with the number 22399

I am not sure what that number means.

I will get more photos tomorrow once have time to play with the scope.

Usually when digging into the unknown on an automotive project it just gets worse the farther down the rabbit hole you go. This seems like one of those rare and pleasant situations where the more you learn the better it gets.
