4x4 Sport Quad

Did you clean the plunger on the side of the carb, behind the plastic with 2 screws? Or that was a different carb I’m remembering. It kinda helped buffer quick movements of the throttle, more letting off I think though. I would imagine there should be a gap, I don’t remember. Some people on the forums would swear tying the armatures together with an O-ring was the ticket but I never found that necessary. That pilot and passage to the idle screw is important. Also the passage to the accelerator pump. Anywho, keep beating on it, sounds fun :D

Brand new carb. Plunger moves fine. Going to pull the plug tomorrow and see what it says.

You are really making me want to get the free Banshee project I got from my sister in law out and to start fixing it up. I've got a garage full of 5 broke down kids bikes I need to all get running before Easter though first. Picked up a mint condition 2004 Yamaha Breeze 125 from a guy at work for one of my kids to move up to a bigger better bike this weekend.

I've got a 125 breeze for the wife and I'm about to throw the zoom zoom carb in the garbage. It's bogging when it gets hot and you pull the plug and it's soaked in fuel. I can run the idle mixture screw all the way lean and it doesn't change anything, I've got the idle speed screw in all the way just to try and get it to idle. I called Zoomzoom to ask what jets they use because the factory ones don't fit and all they would tell me is adjust the idle screw and let it idle for 15mins and then check the plug. I ordered a different carb last night that hopefully fixes it.

The guy I got it from has had it since like '09. He told me it's real cold blooded and needs to warm up lots before riding and he always carries a spare plug and changes the plug probably 6 times a year also. I guess I'll see how it does having a kid thrash on it. I hate atv carb issues. Almost all of mine have carb issues at some point every year. I need to learn more about fixing and jetting them I guess. The crappy Amazon carbs for some of the bikes don't help either. I did finally get a gas station near me(20 min away) that sells non-ethanol gas.

It's very cold blooded that's for sure. So are all my bikes. Interesting that he changes plugs that much. Maybe that's just the nature of the beast? I dunno. I'll try the new carb and see what happens.

Yeah I haven't even checked it out too much yet but I'm assuming it's got the stock Mikuni carb still.

Make sure to drain the carb when you put them away. I park it, start and walk away. Come back later to put the cover on. (Also no battery) Those cold start, fuel soaked issues sound really weird. Is this on a factory carb?

Not a factory carb. Wasn't a factory carb on it when I got it either. Spark plug hole was stripped when I bought it so I put time sert in it and went from there. It runs good at idle and at WOT but partial throttle is trash. I've tried playing with the needle height and no change. And I called ZoomZoom and they wouldn't tell me what jets they use and the factory jets I bought don't fit so there's nothing much more I can do because playing with it.

I have had problems with the rubber seals on needles cracking quickly when you walk away from a dry carb. best thing I have found thus far is NONETHANOL gasoline, with a healthy amount of startron enzyme stabilizer in it. and I have been making sure all the motors start and run for a few min every 4-6 months if nobody has been riding them.

With the buggy, constantly running it with that gas in it would bankrupt me. I have plans to install a 1 gallon fuel cell, and switch over to a small amount of the non ethanol stuff before storage. then start it on the same nonethanol stuff, and switch it over to the main tank full of al gore's bullshit.

This carb on this breeze is about to be replaced. Idle screw all the way in and air screw 1/4 turn from seated and it’s still covering the plug in soot and will only hold idle with the idle screw turned all the way in. Still spudders going up through the rpm range but clears out on top.

Bought a rebuild kit. The rebuild kit had a noticeably smaller pilot jet than the one in the carb. A 15 vs unknown because it’s not marked. Put that in. I put in the 77 main jet that came with the rebuild and replaced the unknown size main jet. The needle in the rebuild kit is about 3/4” longer than what’s in the carb so I put it in on the middle clip. When to start and the only way it would idle was with the throttle wide open, didn’t matter where the air screw was turned. Swapped back to the larger pilot jet and now it’s back to idling like it was before but still spudders going through the rpm range. I’m going to lean out the needle all the way and see if that changes anything because the plug is still sooty and black. Went ahead and bought a different $25 carb to replace it in case this doesn’t work.

As far as the warrior, seems the bog off idle with a quick throttle stab is a common thing. I’ve tried the tricks to fix it but no luck. Am interesting difference is this zoom zoom carb has the accelerator pump spraying directly down the throat while the OEM carb sprays at the side. But other than the quick throttle stumble she runs amazing. I bought a different carb under a recommendation on the Yamaha forums to swap on and see if that helps the problem any. It’s really only bad when it’s cold.

Is this in gear or neutral? (Warrior)
Depending how quick you stab it, I suppose it will always stumble……until more compression is added :D

No update. I just love this quad. Left some ruts doing power slides in the yard. Oops. Definitely have to let it sit and idle for a good 5-10mins and warm up. Once you do that, the bog is pretty much gone but still there.

Loaded up and heading hidden falls. Spent the last three days thrashing on the 50 and 125 to get them working right. The 125 I think is hurt but I at least got it to run good through mid throttle. It won’t run with the stock air filter so it’s got a rag zip tied to it to offer some filtering. The warrior seems solid. The 50 runs great but the brakes aren’t perfect.
