50th Anniversary of the K5 Blazer - BlazerBash 2018!!!

Why do you think you can't wheel your K5? There are a lot of very mild trails you would love to drive on.

It's also right up the road from Arches.
Uh, I don't even drive my K5 in the rain.... it's a restored "show" type piece, and sticks to the paved surfaces. I'd probably have more fun on the RZR anyway.

Any word if the magazines and/or GM is interested?

Can we have a Blazer Bash gathering for the guys with stock rigs? :dunno:
Last year there were several rigs that were at or near stock, including my formerly ifs Yukon. There are a plethora of trails that can be traversed in a stock vehicle.

I will keep that in mind. When I think of BB I think of the look on Lawrence's face in that picture of him going over the edge and scratching up the show truck.

That section of trail did not look like it would be friendly to my truck. :haha:

I could see me making this trip even if I do have a truck and not a K5.

I'm definetly making the trek for 18...I plan to drive the K512 (my K5 with a 12 valve :D) and explore some of the surrounding areas with my kids.

Ah! The Willys is for the most part done...and now a K512!

With the work you do this will be very cool! :thumb::popcorn:

Yep...the K30 is now at the "enjoy it and just fix what I break" point, the Willys is now in North Carolina.....so once I get a few odds and ends tied up, the K5 will cease to be just my garage floor hold down system :doah: :D

I knew I should have hacked up the Willys more...now I set the bar too high :waytogo:

Please don't stab me relentlessly for saying this, but is there anything to do in Moab OTHER than wheeling?

I could be in to participate, but obviously not wheeling my K5. I guess I could bring my RZR and follow you guys around.:dunno:
Yes, there is plenty to do other than wheeling. There are lots of scenic paved roads to drive, plenty of hikes and canyons to explore and as previously mentioned, Arches national park is right there too.

There are also plenty of trails you can run with no real fear of body damage either. I've run plenty of stuff there and I've never hurt my sheet metal. I understand that if your blazer is show quality just getting red dirt in hard to clean places might be a deal breaker, so if thats the case, bring the rzr too. Those are actually pretty fun to play with down there as well. They are everywhere.

I talked to my wife and she would actually like to go, the only issue is that late September date. We are usually harvesting around here by then.

Sounds like I could check out the paved scenery with the K5, but yeah I don't want to get dirt and dust all over the under carriage since I have everything painted underneath.

Planning on towing my rig out with the wife. Not sure on the details yet. Am I going to have trouble storing my tow rig and trailer?

You've got a few years to figure it out, but no, there are plenty of places to drop your rig and trailer. The hotels and other places are used to having trailers parked around for people coming to wheel.

If the dates stay the same it is the second weekend in September. The last weekend much higher chance of rain/ snow

I know I have a while but at the rate i'm going there may not be much left of my rig by 2018  I guess the real question is, if I tow out will I need to street the truck to the trails or will I be able to tow to the trails and "Safely " Leave my truck and trailer .

I would say that you could tow out to the trails. I can't vouch for every trail, but most of the trails I've been on there are a few trucks and trailers sitting at the entrances, or nearby from people doing it. I wouldn't worry about it.

What's the camping layout like out there?
I'm used to the So Cal wide open pull up anywhere and set up camp kind of thing.

I suppose you could sleep in the wide open spaces, but you might also get run over by trucks who are trying to follow the trail!!! :haha:

I've always stayed at the campground, but there might be designated areas off-trail where you could do something less "organized"....

I wouldn't worry too much about driving your rig on the street in Moab. They're pretty forgiving of wheelers rolling around on the pavement out there. My Tahoe literally doesn't get a second look there lol

I'm going to see if my fiance is interested in making this trip in 2018. We'd be running whatever new 4dr I wind up building in the next little while.

I suppose I might think about meandering that direction myself.

Towing, Moab is becoming a bit more friendly to the guy driving his rig to and from the trail, I myself like getting into the climate controlled towrig at the earliest convenience so I usually tow to the trail heads. I've never had a problem in 12 yrs of going to Moab but I try to lock up stuff and make it at least harder to take things.

Camping: There are many campgrounds in town and I would advise everyone to stay as close to each other as possible, there is always a good amount of after hours socializing and good times at the "main campground" Right now that's typically Moab Rim Campark. They're treating us well and haven't been to pissed at us yet. That could change. If you want to do some primitive camping most of the land around Moab is BLM so normal BLM rules apply, up towards the mountains there are trees and if your in a non used up area you can find fire wood. Most of the easy to get to areas are used up and you need to bring firewood and pack it in and pack it out principles will apply. If you go out and stay in the slick rock areas you will have to bring firewood as there really aren't many trees, also it will be harder to get and do most things so be prepared with a toilet and water as well.

For those coming from a distance and wanting to spend more time in and around Moab, look into Arches National park, Canyon lands, and Western Colorado. You can put together one hell of a 10 day period between camping south of Moab in the Canyonlands area, hitting up Blazer Bash, going into Arches then heading to Western Colorado for places like Ouray, Silverton, Mesa Verde, and there is good wheeling in Montrose and Grand Junction if you like some harder body damage type stuff.
