I suppose I might think about meandering that direction myself.
Towing, Moab is becoming a bit more friendly to the guy driving his rig to and from the trail, I myself like getting into the climate controlled towrig at the earliest convenience so I usually tow to the trail heads. I've never had a problem in 12 yrs of going to Moab but I try to lock up stuff and make it at least harder to take things.
Camping: There are many campgrounds in town and I would advise everyone to stay as close to each other as possible, there is always a good amount of after hours socializing and good times at the "main campground" Right now that's typically Moab Rim Campark. They're treating us well and haven't been to pissed at us yet. That could change. If you want to do some primitive camping most of the land around Moab is BLM so normal BLM rules apply, up towards the mountains there are trees and if your in a non used up area you can find fire wood. Most of the easy to get to areas are used up and you need to bring firewood and pack it in and pack it out principles will apply. If you go out and stay in the slick rock areas you will have to bring firewood as there really aren't many trees, also it will be harder to get and do most things so be prepared with a toilet and water as well.
For those coming from a distance and wanting to spend more time in and around Moab, look into Arches National park, Canyon lands, and Western Colorado. You can put together one hell of a 10 day period between camping south of Moab in the Canyonlands area, hitting up Blazer Bash, going into Arches then heading to Western Colorado for places like Ouray, Silverton, Mesa Verde, and there is good wheeling in Montrose and Grand Junction if you like some harder body damage type stuff.
