57 Pontiac "Zero Fox"

Time to get into the garage now that it's pretty clean and try to see where I left off.

A reminder of what it looked like when I brought it home. Nick (bix) and I spent a couple of Saturdays unpeeling the twisted sheet metal off the front of the car.

Fast Forward to today...

As you can see the windshield isn't getting cleaner. I did spend some time getting the original 261 cid 6 cylinder unstuck, and it has run...although poorly. It got new gaskets and a going over but in hindsight I should have tore it down completely and done a more thorough job cleaning the five decades of sitting. The rings are super sticky and the compression is all over the place. I may still tear it down and clean it up better so it is a good runner. In this pic you can see the damage to the front of the frame. The damage is limited to this part of the frame, ahead of the suspension.

The level of grease on this car is awe inspiring. this is what it looks like when you have a Road Draft tube and operate on dirt/gravel roads a lot. A lot of the engine from the manifolds and down was this bad at one time.

Finally time to chop that bent part off and replace it with a chunk I robbed from a parts car.

that part of the frame really only holds the bumper, and nothing rearward of it shows any damage whatsoever. The only remaining damage is at the top of the cowl where the fenders bolt. Again, pretty minor stuff.

Next up was making room for the headers and exhaust to eventually be installed. The mid mount transmission mounts are right in the way...what a goofy system!

That should leave plenty of room now.

So, this car has been stuck in the mud many times in it's short career. Every crevice under the car is filled like the front crossmember was...and it's a boxed frame. I have many hours of shit work ahead of me yet.

In other news the 389 cid sbc stroker in on it's way now! Woohoo!

From the front face where it bolts to the bellhousing to the tail where the slip yoke goes is 24 1/2" as best I can measure.

I have not read all of the plans for this car......

That thing is screaming for a straight axle and fender headers.

Cliff notes version is this:

A drag and drive car ultimately. Able to take it to work, or out for dinner with the boss.

Approximately 500 hp stroker small block, Tremec TKX 5 speed, Fabbed Ford 9" rear with 4.11's. Interior stock bench and stuff for now. Under chassis headers, cutouts, etc all in 3" dumped at the rear end. Some sort of diet plan. The bumpers on this car are brutally heavy, so that is something I will be looking into. What still looks OK, what looks stupid, what compromise between function, weight and looks can be made. It's a goofy tri-five. I could bolt on Chevy stuff up front in a pinch. From a tech standpoint I am trying to build the car tech legal for 10.0 or slower. That should give me room to grow.

It has to run middle 11's, be reliable, fun, and be able to cruise the highway easily.

Any fiberglass available?
And what happened to the 396?
I’m glad to see the oem type suspension up front!
