6.0L swap... What should I look for?

Can you run 87 in the lq4? The only difference between the lq9 and lq4 is the lq9 has 10:1 which gives it the extra 15hp. They also have flat tops and beefier push rods.

Thanks for the prices... I came up with 2400 bucks for everything you listed. What all needs to be reworked on the harnesses? Will I need the fuse block from the donor truck also?

The fuse block is a piggy back system so to speak. Mine is just like the one ryan b posted give or take a detail.

You will have the wiring harness its self, off the harness will have your basic readings, sensors, injectors, maf, power wire, grounds. The harness then splits into 3 basic parts.

1. the 2 plugs into the ecm/computer

2. your basic 4 wire hook up and small branched off fuse block and relay or relays
those four wires consist of

-4cy tach,
-fuel pump,
-ign on, and
-12 v constant

basic fuses for the ecm, wires, fuel pump etc

and then the relay for the fuel pump and if included the ign and fan,

3. your data/prom plug in and check engine light.

my truck stock I run 87 in it, the motor from it should be no different until you start getting aggressive with the timing, cam, heads etc

your trucks harness and ign key will still operate just as it would before. This harness is intended to be for the engine operation itself.

for the sensors you have options, you can re-tap holes to standard thread, or auto meter sells adapters to thread your stock or aftermarket sending unit into the holes. You can run the stock mech fan, or if you go electric there are controllers like the spall or other ones that can operate in a array of functions such as 1 speed, 2 speed, or even a spool up. Wiring the fan is very important as they have considerable amp draw when you fire em up. The ford taurus fan has been widely used and the internet is stuffed full of information in them.

So if I were to buy a harness should the fuse block come with it?

sorry I was not clear on that. The harness that the afternmarket guys use, or a reworked facory harness does not use a factory fuse and relay set up.

These are added by the person/company that reworks the harness.

The engine harness can be removed with the motor trany and can be unplugged separately from factory underhood fuse and relay box.

here is a pic, does the same thing my harness or ryans does, this one is simply laid out in a way that is easy on the eyes. You can see how it lays out on the motor by where the 8 injector plugs are.

Ok.... doesn't look bad at all when it's layed out.

Do you have any links to a cheap reworked harness?

500 isn't bad but is there a cheaper option?

Couple more questions...

Can I use my stock fan shroud and 350 radiator or would I be better off getting a radiator from a donor car(overheating issues?)?

I did some towing last night with my L76 and it didn't seem right for some reason, It felt like it lacked some torque.

I did notice the l76's make quite a bit less tq down low on the dyno charts then it's iron blocked predecessor... still should have plenty o balls though.:deal:

Oh it has some balls thats for sure. To me, it seems more of a high hp street engine/ mud slinger.

I have the 09 with 367hp and 375lb-ft torque

The 6.0L in the 1500 is SEVERLY torque limited by the programming, or it would cook that l60e trans. And blow up the rear.

I'm thinking I might as well sell my 700r4 with corvette shift kit and try to find a 6.0l 4l80e combo. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone sort of thing.
