So I have a 82 6.2 with 92k and the original engine. Currently with the hx35 turbo it makes 210 HP and 475 ftlbs. I am happy with the power but the blow by is bad enough to start pushing oil past seals. I know a CDR will help but knowing that it was beat like a rented mule in a former life I think it may be time for a overhaul. The more I think about it the more I think I should inspect it well before any machine work and if it tests good just do a stock overhaul with felpro gaskets and new head bolts. No studs or girdles. Am I crazy? I just think if it is crack free now more than likely it will remain that way. I could go to (insert other diesel engine) but right now I have this one and a spare and during the overhaul I will be adding a nv4500 or a ranger(I have both).

If . . .

If you're really worried you could put ARP studs in and maybe a girdle on the bottom.

Generally if an engine has been crack free it will stay that way, unless you get stupid with building power. A good rebuild with good quality parts will last a long time. Using head studs and a main stud girdle is just good insurance.

The power output you stated is a pretty substantial increase over the stock engine....probably around 50% increase in HP and almost double the torque. Not sure why you wouldn't at least put ARP studs in?

Idk but I have all these great gm of transmissions. Plus 2 6.2s

Just a thought before you spend a bunch of money rebuilding a 6.2.

12V Cummins can be found pretty cheap and my VE pump 12V in my K30 is about double the numbers that you have in your signature with a much stronger platform, pretty minor mods on the wimpiest Cummins out there.

Oh I want a cummins but my nv4500 is the early Chevy that doesn't work with a 5.9 and my ranger sm465 is too weak. I would be happy if it made the current power and was reliable
